Confirmed exit sees Liverpool threaten to derail Man Utd plans, with Dutch transfer to give TAA a wake-up call

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are mulling a move for a Dutch right-back who’ll finally apply some much needed pressure to Trent Alexander-Arnold, and a deal could also scupper Man Utd’s plans in the process, per a report.

Midfield is expected to be the centre of attention with regards to Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer. However, an addition or two in defence could also be on the agenda.

Indeed, the Sun recently reported back-up right-back, Calvin Ramsay, will be loaned out next season.

The 19-year-old arrived from Aberdeen last summer, though his first season on Merseyside has been ravaged by injury.

Liverpool reportedly want Ramsay to get regular first-team minutes next season and a loan is on the cards.

As such, Jurgen Klopp’s only viable alternatives to Alexander-Arnold at right-back will be James Milner or Joe Gomez.

However, Milner is out of contract at season’s end and might not be retained. Gomez, meanwhile, is a natural centre-half and doesn’t provide anywhere near the attacking impetus Alexander-Arnold does from the right side.

As such, the addition of a specialised right-back who’ll put pressure on Alexander-Arnold has been speculated. According to Give Me Sport, the Reds are zeroing in on a viable target.

Liverpool eyeing Devyne Rensch

It’s claimed Liverpool could enter the race for Ajax right-back and Netherlands international, Devyne Rensch.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a regular in Amsterdam this term and has bagged three goals and provided one assist from full-back. His versatility also allows him to cover at left-back if required.

Rensch is understood to have caught Liverpool’s eye, though they’re not alone in that regard. Man Utd too are reportedly in the mix of Rensch leaves Ajax this summer.

Erik ten Hag has already signed two players from his former club in the form of Lisandro Martinez and Antony. Clearly, he has no qualms over strengthening Man Utd by weakening Ajax.

A more attack-minded option is wanted to compete with Diogo Dalot this summer. If signed, Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be the fall guy.

Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong have both been linked. The latter is reportedly keen to join the Red Devils and talks between the club and his agent are already underway.

Rensch is a back-up option if Frimpong can’t be signed from Bayer Leverkusen. However, per GMS, Liverpool may take Rensch off the table by offering him a move to Anfield first.

No transfer value is cited in the piece, though Transfermarkt list a figure of €8m.

As such, if Rensch were brought to Anfield, he’d be a move in a similar vein to that of Kostas Tsimikas who provides back-up to Andrew Robertson.
