Curtis Jones outlines ultimate aim after Liverpool confirm contract extension for promising attacking midfielder

Liverpool have confirmed a long-term contract extension for attacking midfielder Curtis Jones, who “can’t wait to see what the future holds” with the club.

News emerged on Thursday that Curtis Jones was ready to commit his future to Liverpool. The official announcement was not too far behind, with the Premier League club going on to confirm he has signed a deal for the long term.

It will extend Jones’ already lengthy association with Liverpool. He came through their academy ranks before breaking through at senior level, going on to make 81 appearances for the club to date.

During that time, he has scored eight goals and even became the youngest player to captain Liverpool in a match in the FA Cup when he was just 19 years old in February 2020.

Still only 21, Jones has a bright future ahead of him – and he will be spending a significant portion of it at Anfield.

It is believed that his new deal will last until 2027, which shows the faith the club have in him to reach his potential.

After the announcement of the new contract, Jones explained why it was a simple decision to renew with his boyhood team.

He told the club’s official website: “First of all, I want to thank the coaching staff for having the belief in me as always, for giving me the chance.

“And of course for me, I’m over the moon, I’m buzzing. It was an easy thing [to decide to renew].

“It’s my boyhood club, I’m a Scouser, I’ve supported the club for the whole of my life, so yeah, I’m buzzing and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Curtis Jones ready to fulfil Liverpool ambition

Jones has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, featuring either as a left winger or central midfielder. He has made one start each in the Premier League and Champions League.

Competition from the likes of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, both of whom look exciting for the future as well, in addition to injury issues, have restricted him to some extent.

But his responsibilities should increase over time as he seeks to establish himself as a key first-team player at Liverpool.

Indeed, Jones has stated that his ultimate goal anywhere else would be to end up at Liverpool, so it makes sense for him to continue his journey there.

On why Liverpool will be the ideal place for his development, he added: “For everything, really.

“I think if I was at a different club as well, my goal and aim and dream would always be to come here and play. But I’m here now, I’ve been here since I was six, I’ve gone all the way through.

“I’ve supported the team for the whole of my life and especially now with how the team is and the coaching staff around me, I just feel that it’s the perfect place for me and again, as I said, I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
