A former coach of new Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez has picked out the traits that will see the striker flourish under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have sealed the signing of the Uruguay international in a statement arrival at Anfield. While they knew they needed to replace Bayern Munich-bound Sadio Mane, they have done more than that.

Indeed, in Nunez they have a 22-year-old who will likely be a centrepiece of the Liverpool team from his debut season right through to the end of Klopp’s manager as tenure.

Liverpool are shelling out an initial £64million for Nunez. If all goes to plan, though, add-ons will make him the club’s record signing at around £85million.

One of Nunez’s former coaches has said that Nunez is a hybrid of fellow Uruguayan strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

Another, David Badia, has claimed that Nunez’s pace and ability to sniff out chances make him a dangerous threat up front.

“His physical conditions were completely amazing,” Badia told Sky Sports News.

“He is a very tall player, at the same he has amazing pace and can also keep his speed in the long distance, not just the first three-four metres, that was very impressive for me.

“Some of the players, they have one or two chances and can score one goal. They are there by luck but he is very clever and he can find the right position in the right moment to have the chance to score.

“One hundred per cent, if there’s any league in the world that he can adapt, he can be much better than he is today, it is the Premier League.”

Nunez scored twice against Liverpool for Benfica in last season’s Champions League.

After the tie, Klopp lauded the striker, with those performances driving up the manager’s interest.

While Nunez will be important for his goals, his arrival will also drive down the average age of Liverpool’s front three.
