Pundit claims Liverpool, Nunez deal could laugh in face of Haaland at Man City amid glaring ‘difference’

Darwin Nunez laments missing a scoring opportunity during the match between the USMNT and Uruguay

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez deal could look much better business than Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City amid the difference in salary, one pundit has said.

Both sides have bolstered their front lines ahead of next season, when their rivalry will enter a new phase. The two sides have gone at each other for the Premier League title in recent seasons and are showing no signs of slowing down.

As a result, the Premier League is ready to welcome two of Europe’s most lethal strikers. City paid £51million for Haaland, but agents’ fees and bonuses could take the deal to around £85million.

Liverpool, meanwhile, paid £64million up front for Nunez, but he too could end up costing £85million. However, the difference in the deals comes in the salary.

The Reds will pay Nunez £140,000 per week, whereas Haaland is earning £375,000 per week at Man City.

Speaking to Football Insider, former goalkeeper Paul Robinson insisted that Liverpool may feel they got the better deal if Nunez scores more goals than Haaland.

“In normal terms Nunez’s wages astronomical but in the football world it is an amazing deal,” the pundit said. “When you compare what he will earn with what Haaland will, there’s a big difference.

“It was a similar transfer fee for both. Liverpool are getting their value with the wages though.

“It is probably a conversation to have in 12 months time when we look at who has scored more goals in the Premier League.

“Nunez got 34 goals last season. He is still young as well.

“Both sides are going to have to adapt their styles to suit a number nine. Neither have had an out-and-out number nine for a while. They both have a focal point now.”
