Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool react to fresh setback by adding Argentine playmaker to midfield shortlist; Chelsea star keen on Serie A switch

Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti with Paris Saint-Germain

Liverpool have identified Leandro Paredes as the latest midfielder worthy of a place on their wish list, while a Chelsea defender is open to leaving for an Italian giant – all in Tuesday’s Euro transfer gossip.

LEANDRO PAREDES LINKED WITH LIVERPOOL

Liverpool are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes, according to reports.

Midfield is an area Liverpool need to have serious thoughts about before the transfer window closes. Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are currently nursing injuries.

Against Manchester United on Monday, Liverpool started with two midfielders in their 30s, Jordan Henderson and James Milner. Although they are the two main leaders of the group, they will not be around forever.

Joining them was Harvey Elliott, who is at the opposite end of his career at the age of 19. Like fellow youngsters Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho, he still has some developing to do despite his exciting potential.

With that in mind, Liverpool could do with cover in midfield. Ideally, they need someone at a similar age bracket to 28-year-old Fabinho, who has the right balance of experience.

Indeed, they are now being linked with a potential target of the same age. According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, one of the names under consideration is Leandro Paredes.

The Argentina international could be on his way out of Paris Saint-Germain shortly. He is under contract there until 2024, but has attracted a few suitors.

In Italy, for example, he is on the radar of Juventus and Roma. He actually used to play for the latter, who are now considering him again after an injury to ex-Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum.

But Liverpool – who have Paredes’ former teammates Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah in their squad – could have their own plans.

Liverpool could plug midfield gap with Leandro Paredes

Calciomercato claim a move is more likely now Keita has picked up an injury. There are not many details about how much he would cost, but there is a feeling he would be comfortable playing for Liverpool.

Paredes has never experienced the Premier League before. But across his career so far, he has played in Argentina, Italy, Russia and France.

Only time will tell if a new challenge in England awaits, or a return to Serie A could be more likely for the former Chievo and Empoli man.

Liverpool are interested in Leandro Paredes

Liverpool have been linked with a move for PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes.

Paredes has made 117 appearances for PSG but has only scored three goals and provided 10 assists for them since joining in January 2019.

Naturally a deep-lying playmaker, there would also be the question of how he would compete with Fabinho, or if they could play in tandem. It seems to be just a theory, rather than a concrete objective, at present.

But Liverpool will need to think quickly if they are to sign a midfielder of any description this week.
