Fabio Carvalho aims subtle dig at what Liverpool lack after revealing aims for RB Leipzig loan

Fabio Carvalho has broken his silence after his loan move from Liverpool to RB Leipzig was announced on Friday afternoon.
Carvalho only joined Liverpool last summer from Fulham, but found regular gametime hard to come by despite some early flashes of his potential. Therefore, the youngster has been hoping to get his development back on track elsewhere.
A number of clubs seemed to be showing interest, but RB Leipzig have won the race. Although there was originally a belief Carvalho wanted to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis, the club have got their way by only allowing him out on loan.
During the 2023-24 season, Carvalho will be able to compete in the Champions League with RB Leipzig – whereas Liverpool missed out on qualification for that competition altogether after only coming fifth in the 2022-23 Premier League.
It was something the Portuguese talent was ‘especially’ eager to point out as one of his motivations for choosing RB Leipzig, also hinting at an expectation of getting more playing opportunities.
Carvalho told his new club’s official website: “As a young player, it’s a big step for me to move from England to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig.
“I’m joining a strong side, one that has been very successful in recent years. Now, I want to help build on this and am looking forward to taking on a new challenge.
“My goal is to play as much as possible, in the league, the cup and especially in the UEFA Champions League. RB Leipzig have a reputation for giving young players these kinds of opportunities, which is why this is the perfect club for me to continue my development at.”
RB Leipzig director highlights Fabio Carvalho talent
Max Eberl, RB Leipzig’s director of sport, went on to promise patience with Carvalho, but has plenty of reasons why he thinks the 20-year-old can make an impact in Germany.
Eberl added: “Fabio Carvalho is a huge talent – the fact that Liverpool signed him recently just proves that. He is quick, agile, full of tricks and creative. He likes to get shots away and can also set his teammates up.
“We will give Fabio the time he needs to settle in here and to adjust to life in a new country and with a new club. We are looking forward to him improving our attacking game and to have another option in this department.”
Carvalho played 21 times for Liverpool last season, scoring three goals. He remains under contract on Merseyside until 2027.
