Liverpool set to delay official announcement of exciting £7.7m transfer

Fabio Carvalho Fulham March 2022

Liverpool are set to delay the announcement of the signing of Fulham star Fabio Carvalho, according to a source.

Carvalho was in action for the Championship leaders on Sunday, but he could not stop them falling to a shock 3-1 defeat. The 19-year-old, who has seven goals and seven assists from 29 league appearances, played in behind Aleksandar Mitrovic in the home reverse.

Liverpool have already hammered out a deal for the attacker they tried to sign in January. As per Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have agreed a £5m fee plus £2.7m in add-ons. There was a chance of the transfer going to a tribunal, but the two clubs have come to an agreement.

Carvalho is expected to pen a five-year deal, with Fulham negotiating a 20% sell on.

But any hopes Liverpool fans had of seeing the deal being announced imminently have been dashed.

According to Romano, the Reds will not look to go public on the deal out of respect for the Cottagers. Instead an announcement will be made in the “coming weeks”.

The transfer “100% completed” and there is  prospect of any other clubs pipping Liverpool to the player, according to Romano.

But Liverpool may well be looking for a respectful announcement once Fulham have sealed their place in the Premier League.

Fulham are 16 points clear of Nottingham Forest in third place and could secure promotion in the next month. The final day of the season is May 7 but the London club could well be home and hosed with the title secured long before that.

Liverpool still confident of signing Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool are still in the running for signing Fulham's Fabio Carvalho at the end of the season.

Carvalho, who is a Portugal U21 international, has already visited Kirkby and has met with Jurgen Klopp.

There are also no plans for Liverpool to loan out the player, who represented England from U15-U18.

Doak to join Carvalho

Liverpool are also closing in on Celtic winger Ben Doak.

Football Insider report that the Reds will pay around £600,000 for the 16-year-old.

The deal has been agreed and the paperwork is set to be finalised, with the youngster penning a three-year deal.

Doak made his senior debut in a 20-minute cameo from the bench for Celtic in the 1-0 win over Dundee in January. He also appeared in Hoops’ 3-0 win over Rangers.

Derry City winger Trent Kone-Doherty, 15, is also set to arrive at Liverpool this summer.
