Fabrizio Romano clarifies double Liverpool exit involving Van Dijk with three new arrivals in the works

Speculation surrounding a pair of Liverpool exits involving Virgil van Dijk is not what it seems, though Fabrizio Romano did suggest three summer additions could be made including one at centre-half.

Eyebrows were recently raised when the agent of Virgil van Dijk and Harvey Elliott signed up to the ROOF football agency. Some within the media misconstrued the information as the pair both changing agent.

Van Dijk and Elliott both remain with agent Neil Fewings who has swapped the Wasserman agency for ROOF. The news was confirmed by the Athletic six days ago.

However, the confusion among varying media outlets prompted rumours of potential exits for Van Dijk and/or Elliott.

Indeed, the first sign a player wants out of his current club is often the changing of agent to one tasked with engineering a move away.

But speaking to Caught Offside, trusted transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has allayed any fears Liverpool fans may have.

Van Dijk, Elliott “key parts” of Liverpool plans

“There was a story recently that got a bit of attention, as the agent of Virgil van Dijk and Harvey Elliott joined the ROOF agency,” said Romano.

“But that’s all that happened, it was not a change in representation for the players, as such.

“There’s nothing changing about their future, they are both key parts of Liverpool plans.”

As Romano stated, the duo are and will continue to remain front and centre in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the foreseeable future.

However, that’s not to say multiple new additions won’t be made in the respective positions they play.

Two midfielders and one centre-back wanted

Monday’s Euro Paper Talk brought news of Liverpool’s plans for a summer rebuild. Jude Bellingham remains their primary target in midfield, though he may not be the only arrival in the engine room.

Elsewhere, a new signing at centre-back was labelled one to keep an eye on. While Van Dijk won’t be going anywhere, Joel Matip might be.

“For sure Liverpool want to support Klopp in the summer with the new signings,” Romano said.

“Bellingham is the top priority but there’s a chance they can go for one more midfielder because of [Naby] Keita, [James] Milner and [Alex-Oxlade] Chamberlain [expiring] contract situation.

“I’d keep an eye also on the centre-backs situation.”

Goal and Football Insider are both of the opinion Liverpool intend to cash in on Matip at season’s end.

Matip’s performances have fallen off a cliff this season and he’ll turn 32 in August. The ex-Schalke man will also be entering the final 12 months of his deal come the summer and a £15m bid could be enough to see the Reds wave goodbye.
