Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham “at all costs”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has explained why Borussia Dortmund will likely sell the midfielder in 2023.
Bellingham has become one of Europe’s most promising midfielders since making the brave step from Birmingham City to Borussia Dortmund in 2020. Still only 19 years old, he has now earned Champions League experience and international responsibility with England.
The prospect of a return to English football at club level has been following Bellingham for some time. If he is to get his chance in the Premier League, it could be with Liverpool.
The Reds need to strengthen their midfield in 2023 and have therefore been heavily linked with Bellingham.
His contract with Borussia Dortmund is due to last until 2025, though. The Bundesliga side generally know how to get good value out of players they sell, so Liverpool will be wary of an auction.
That said, Fabrizio Romano believes it is “almost impossible” for Bellingham to stay with Dortmund in 2023.
With that in mind, Liverpool will be doing all they can to win the race for his signature, aware that Premier League rivals like Chelsea and Manchester City could also make their own moves.
“It will be almost impossible to keep the player in the summer,” Romano said on YouTube. “He’s doing fantastic with England and for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, in the Bundesliga and in the World Cup.
“Bellingham is great everywhere. He’s an amazing player and this is why Borussia Dortmund didn’t want to decide any price before or during the World Cup. The price will be decided after the World Cup and negotiations will happen in 2023.
Four-way battle for Jude Bellingham
“Many clubs have had discussions with people close to Bellingham but not yet with Dortmund. These clubs are, for sure Liverpool, they want Bellingham at all costs, Real Madrid are also interested and have had some contacts.
“Manchester City, he’s big friends with Erling Haaland and City will probably go for a midfielder in the summer. Keep an eye on Chelsea because Bellingham and Frenkie De Jong are two players that remain on Chelsea’s list.”
Bellingham will likely cost a significant sum, regardless of whether he does well with England at the World Cup or not.
Liverpool will have to bid high to try and win the race to sign him. But if they can do so, he might turn out to be the perfect fit for what they need.
As Dortmund come to terms with their fate regarding the midfielder, several of the top clubs in the Premier League and Europe will be watching on.
