Liverpool have been handed a boost in pursuit of one of their primary targets who is reportedly ready to push a move through to the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been eyeing up plenty of midfielders ahead of the summer. With the impending departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, there are plenty of roles to be filled.

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been a player of interest for some time. Several top clubs were chasing him last summer until he eventually signed for Bayern.

His time in the Bundesliga hasn’t quite gone to plan though. The 21-year-old has only started in two league matches and has played just 490 minutes of football.

Gravenberch was one of the most exciting prospects in Europe while at Ajax, but his stock has somewhat fallen this season.

The Dutch youngster has found it tough to displace Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka and he could now push for a move to the Premier League.

According to reports in Spain, the player is ready to call it quits in Germany. He is set to meet with the club and could ‘request a move to Liverpool.’

The report also states that the midfielder believes he would be able to play a ‘key role’ in Liverpool’s side next season.

This news will surely come as a massive boost to Liverpool. While he is contracted with Bayern until 2027, they will be reluctant to keep an unhappy player at the club.

Gravenberch would be a fine addition

It’s no secret that Liverpool need to lower the average age of their midfield. At just 21 years old, the Dutch midfielder could be the ideal signing.

With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho not getting any younger, it makes sense they are looking towards the future.

They also have the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic coming through who have a younger profile.

Gravenberch can play in a number of roles but is perhaps best as a holding midfielder. This would then allow Klopp to rotate Fabinho with an extra pair of legs in the middle.

Along with signing a player like Gravenberch, Liverpool also want to add an attacking midfielder to their ranks.

No Liverpool midfielder has scored more than three goals this season and this is something that Klopp would like to address.

Mason Mount has been mentioned as a potential target, but Liverpool seem most keen on Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The World Cup winner has scored 10 league goals this season and has provided a further two assists.

His relentless work-rate off the ball would also make him a popular player in Klopp’s system.

After dropping points against Aston Villa, Liverpool do look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

While this will be a blow to Klopp and his side, it shouldn’t impact the potential deals for Mac Allister and Gravenberch.
