Liverpool have made enquiries about Torino defender Gleison Bremer, a report has revealed – although they are not the favourites to sign the Brazilian.
Bremer has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A this season. His form has helped Torino go from being a relegation-threatened side last season to a mid-table one this time around.
As such, he could be aiming even higher on an individual level. At the age of 25, it could be the perfect moment in his career to take a step up.
In that regard, he has already been linked with a transfer to Liverpool. The Reds have been evolving their defence over the past couple of years.
Currently, they can rely on Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez. They also have Rhys Williams on the books, while Nat Phillips and Sepp van den Berg are out on loan at Championship clubs.
It is a department in which they are well stocked, but just like at the other end of the field, that isn’t stopping them monitoring players who could add to the ranks.
According to Goal, Bremer is one of them. In fact, they are “tracking the progress” he has been making in Serie A.
It has led to “informal enquiries” from the Merseyside outfit over his availability. There is nothing to suggest they have gone as far as a bid.

If they were to do so, Torino would expect them to stump up a figure in the region of €25m (£20.8m). Such an offer, though, may arrive from elsewhere in Italy.
The report reminds that Juventus have also been watching Bremer ahead of a potential cross-city move. Yet the leading contenders for his signature at this stage are Inter Milan.
Inter Milan in pole to sign Gleison Bremer
The reigning Serie A champions have held talks about the transfer. They are looking into the signing of a new centre-back for the summer.
Therefore, their need could be greater than Liverpool’s at present. But Goal still suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s club could make a move if one of their current options leaves.
The most likely candidate would be Gomez, although the report insists he wants to stay at Anfield to fight for his place.
In turn, Phillips should be sold, while Williams and van den Berg could continue their developments on loan.
Whether there would be any space for Bremer remains to be seen. It would be important for him to continue with regular gametime, having got to this point in his career.
But if there is an opening, Liverpool would likely consider it, to ensure their squad depth remains healthy across the pitch.
