‘Good chance’ Liverpool sign Brazil international, with player convinced and opening bid prepared

Brazil international midfielder Andre

An opening bid is coming for a Brazilian midfielder who is ‘sold’ on joining Liverpool, and the Reds have a ‘good chance’ of completing a deal if one thing happens over the next seven days, per reports.

Midfield moves were always going to dominate the headlines at Anfield this summer and that’s exactly how it’s transpired.

The exits of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson weren’t anticipated when the window opened. However, once healthy offers from Saudi Arabia came in, Liverpool couldn’t refuse the chance to cash in on two ageing stars.

As such, one and potentially two further arrivals are expected despite already signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Holding midfield is where the moves will be made. Indeed, the Reds currently do not possess an established defensive midfielder on their books. Stefan Bajcetic did play as a No 6 at times last season, though is only 18 years of age and has less than 20 senior appearances to his name.

As such, Liverpool have ramped up their pursuit of Southampton ace, Romeo Lavia.

Personal terms are already in place, though as yet the Reds haven’t bid what the Saints are demanding.

£50m is Southampton’s asking price and Liverpool’s second bid worth £43m was rejected on Tuesday.

But while Liverpool may well thunder in with a third offer, Jurgen Klopp’s side are also preparing to move for Brazil international Andre.

Liverpool prepare Andre bid; Copa Libertadores results crucial

The 22-year-old plies his trade at club level for Fluminense where he’s racked up close to 150 appearances.

Andre is a defensive-minded midfielder and earned his maiden cap for Brazil in June during the 4-2 friendly defeat to Senegal.

Sky Sports confirmed on Tuesday that Liverpool had made official contact with Fluminense. Per their report, Andre is ‘sold on a transfer to Anfield’, though Fluminense will take some convincing.

Andre is an important player for the club who have advanced to the knockout rounds of the Copa Libertadores. That tournament is the South American equivalent of the Champions League.

Per a separate update from ESPN Brazil, Fluminense will only make a decision on whether to sell Andre after their Round of 16 clashes with Argentinos Juniors.

The first leg of that tie kicks off at 11pm UK time on Tuesday night. The return leg takes place on August 8.

Per the report, if Fluminense are eliminated, there is a ‘good chance’ they’ll entertain Andre’s sale. If they progress, Andre will not be allowed to leave and a move may have to wait until the January window at the earliest.

In any case, it’s claimed Liverpool are fully prepared to thunder in with an initial bid worth £21.5m. Signalling their strong interest in the player, it’s then noted the Reds would be willing to bid as high as £25.8m if required.

Explaining why Liverpool have landed on those figures, ESPN Brazil concluded Fulham have already seen an offer for Andre worth £17.2m knocked back by Fluminense.

Given Fluminense’s decision seemingly rests entirely on their Copa Libertadores fate, Liverpool fans will be keeping a keen eye on their Round of 16 clashes.

Whether Liverpool could sign Andre and Lavia, or whether it’s one or the other isn’t yet clear.
