Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike and Anfield star Luis Diaz

Liverpool are planning to launch a massive bid for one of Europe’s best players, according to a source in Germany, with manager Arne Slot’s plan on selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich also taking shape.

Following a successful 2024/25 campaign in which they won the Premier League title in Slot’s first season in charge, Liverpool have been hugely active in the summer transfer window. Knowing fully well that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea will become stronger next season, Liverpool manager Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes have brought six new players to the squad, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Signing a striker is also on Liverpool’s agenda, with the Reds making an approach to Newcastle United for Alexander Isak as Darwin Nunez looks set to leave Anfield after losing his place in Slot’s starting line-up last season.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has long reported that Isak is Slot’s ‘dream signing’, but sources have consistently told us that Newcastle do not want to sell the Sweden international striker in the summer transfer window.

That proved to be the case earlier in the week, as Liverpool learnt that even a £120million deal would not be enough for Newcastle to sell Isak.

Liverpool swiftly moved on from Isak, and according to reliable sources, Fabrice Hawkins and Fabrizio Romano, agreed a deal with Hugo Ekitike.

Ekitike has made it clear that he wants to join Liverpool and has already submitted a transfer request at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bild journalist Christian Falk has now brought an update on the 23-year-old’s striker situation, reporting on X that Liverpool are ‘preparing a mega offer of €100 Mio for Ekitike’.

Such an offer is very likely to seal the deal for Liverpool, with Frankfurt having set the striker’s price at €100m (£86.6m, $116.4m).

Ekitike, who scored 15 goals and gave eight assists in 31 Bundesliga starts last season, was described as “an absolutely world-class talent” who “can do everything” by Liverpool legend Steve Nicol on ESPN FC this week.

Falk has also noted how selling Diaz could help Liverpool in their quest to sign Ekitike.

Luis Diaz from Liverpool to Bayern Munich taking shape

According to Falk, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have scheduled a meeting to discuss terms over Diaz.

According to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern are planning a second bid for Diaz after having their initial offer of £67million for the Colombia international winger turned down.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has already reported on X that Diaz has ‘informed’ Liverpool that he wants to leave in the summer transfer window.

The winger is also said to have made it clear to the Premier League champions that Bayern is the club that he wants to go.

Falk’s new revelation about a new meeting suggests that Liverpool have finally accepted that they will not be able to keep Diaz.

Latest Liverpool news: Ibrahima Konate hope, Rodrygo advice

Liverpool have not given up on keeping Ibrahima Konate, but Real Madrid have learnt how they can ‘convince’ the Premier League champions to sell the France international central defender this summer.

West Ham United are keen on signing two Liverpool players in the summer transfer window and are accelerating plans to complete the deals.

Meanwhile, a former Real Madrid player has told Rodrygo what to do about his future, as Liverpool eye the Brazilian star as a potential replacement for Diaz.
