Jamie Carragher makes bold statement about Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham Borussia Dortmund July 2022

Jamie Carragher believes Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham could become the best player in the Premier League if he landed in England next summer.

The England starlet had a brilliant season in the Bundesliga last term prompting interest from across Europe. The Premier League teams and their financial muscle will fancy their chances of bringing the 19-year-old back to England.

Bellingham left for BVB from Birmingham in July 2020 for an initial fee of £25m.

Manchester United had also made him an offer. But Bellingham was convinced by the German club’s track record of developing young players. And BVB have not disappointed with Bellingham now a regular in the senior England squad.

His value has also soared meaning Dortmund could easily quadruple their investment in the player.

But Bellingham will not be moving this summer that is clear.

In an interview with German publication Ruhr Nachrichten, he said: “The only future I think of is the next game for Dortmund.

“I’m really looking forward to next season. I can’t wait for it to finally start. But yes, I’ll be here next season, and I’ll be ready.”

That has not stopped Liverpool trying to lay the groundwork for a move. And Carragher believes Man Utd and Man City will also be trying to land the player.

Bellingham ‘can become like De Bruyne’

“Well I think the one everyone talks about is Jude Bellingham. And I don’t think it’s just his ability.” Carragher told a Twitter Space with Football Daily.

“I think it’s his age and the fact if you got him, spent big money on him, he would hopefully be at your club.

“It’s not just Liverpool, I’m sure Man City, Man United are looking at him, all the other top clubs, when you’re buying him you’re thinking we could have a player for the next 10 or 12 years, I think that’s the thinking.

“His ability is really good and it’s almost the potential of what he could become. Could he become like Kevin De Bruyne is now basically – which is for me – the best player in the Premier League, you look at him in that midfield position and you just think wow.

“Maybe Man City are thinking he could replace De Bruyne or Liverpool could bring him in and he can add something or revolutionise Man United’s midfield. I think he’s the one that stands out for everybody, I think there will be an auction next summer and I hope Liverpool win it, fingers crossed.”
