Trusted source reveals extent of Joe Gomez injury after Liverpool man’s substitution at Southampton

A trusted journalist has provided an update on the fitness of Joe Gomez after the Liverpool player’s injury against Southampton.
Jurgen Klopp put Gomez at right-back after deciding to rest most of his first-team stars. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane were just some of the big names to have been given a night off.
Despite making nine changes to the starting eleven, Liverpool still beat Southampton 2-1.
However, they had to come from behind to pick up three points. Nathan Redmond gave the Saints the lead early on with a deflected strike.
Liverpool were level by the 27th minute when Takumi Minamino smashed into the net after being set up by Diogo Jota.
And Joel Matip went on to score the only goal of the second half, meaning Liverpool kept the pressure on title rivals Manchester City.
However, Liverpool need City to lose to Aston Villa on the final day due to the goal difference between the sides, which stands at six.
One worry for Klopp was an injury to Gomez in the first half. He went over awkwardly on his ankle during a tackle.

The Englishman managed to stay on the pitch until half time. But Klopp took him off at the interval and brought Jordan Henderson on, therefore putting James Milner at right-back.
Klopp will be hoping Gomez can get back to full fitness in case Alexander-Arnold has to come off in the Champions League final.
And there is positive news for Liverpool, according to respected journalist Paul Joyce.
The reporter, who works for The Times, says Gomez has had a scan on the ankle problem he picked up at St Mary’s.
No serious damage has been done. Club officials are apparently ‘confident’ he will be fit to deputise in the UCL final, should Klopp need him.
The 24-year-old has done well this season whenever he has been given an opportunity to impress.
He is clearly taking notes from Alexander-Arnold as his crossing has caused opposition teams problems.
Of course, Gomez is unlikely to ever become a regular starter due to his team-mate’s form. The centre-back will also struggle to replace either Joel Matip or Ibrahima Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk.
A summer transfer could be on the cards for Gomez. Aston Villa are reportedly looking into a deal to take him to the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, a report has cast doubt over Liverpool’s ability to sign Fabio Vieira from Porto this summer.
