Jude Bellingham latest: Pundit reveals why Liverpool will beat bitter rivals Man Utd to signing of Dortmund star

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Liverpool to beat Manchester United to the signature of Jude Bellingham.

Sky Sports‘ Florian Plettenburg recently revealed that the North West rivals both have a ‘good chance’ of landing the Borussia Dortmund in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Indeed, it’s been previously stated that Liverpool have already held extensive talks over a deal.

The 19-year-old currently has three years remaining on his Dortmund contract. That puts the Bundesliga side in a strong position when it comes to eventually discussing his exit.

But, when talking about Bellingham’s return to England, Robinson revealed why he sees the player at Anfield.

He told Football Insider: “He just fits in at Liverpool. The way that he plays and the system Klopp plays, it is a great fit.

“Bellingham is an incredibly talented footballer. He still has his best years ahead of him. He already has an unbelievable reputation. His charisma on the ball is something special. I love watching him.

“To achieve what he has at such a young age is remarkable. I think he has been really clever with how he has managed his career and his career path.

“It is only a matter of time before he returns to England. I strongly suspect he will move to Liverpool because of the way they play. It suits him.”

Top clubs all chasing Dortmund star

Bellingham is not just on the radars of Liverpool and United, however. Indeed, recent reports suggest that Manchester City and Chelsea are also keen on the youngster.

Pep Guardiola is said to be wowed by Bellingham’s display in City’s recent Champions League win over Dortmund.

The former Birmingham youngster opened the scoring against City before the side turned things around to win.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said: “I was impressed when he was 17. Imagine (what I think about him) now that he’s 19!.

“Bellingham) grew up so (much). Defensively, he’s able to follow (Ilkay) Gundogan or Kevin (De Bruyne) in the pockets and win the duels.

“So he’s an exceptional player. I think everyone knows it. Not because the manager of Manchester City is going to tell you. Everybody knows it.”

Bellingham more of a NEED for Liverpool

Liverpool‘s need for Bellingham is almost certainly greater than United, City’s or Chelsea, however.

Jurgen Klopp has started revamping his side and an aging midfield is a major area of concern.

Jordan Henderson, Thiago and James Milner are all over 30, while Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are pushing that number.

That leaves Klopp searching for new recruits, with Flamengo’s Joao Gomes and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde and Wolves star Matheus Nunes all targeted recently.

Klopp’s links to former club Dortmund also appear to give Liverpool the edge in any impending transfer battle.

The one shining light in Klopp’s midfield so far this season has been the form of Harvey Elliott.

The former Fulham youngster has started the last five Premier League games, scoring once against Bournemouth in the 9-0 rout.

Pairing Elliott with Bellingham going forward could give the Reds a really dynamic midfield mix. However, the defensive pivot, namely Fabinho, would have his hands full given the two young Englishman’s desires to join up with the attack.

All that remains now is for Liverpool to try and negotiate a figure for Bellingham, although that is likely to be a far from easy process.
