Jude Bellingham: Liverpool, Man Utd put on backfoot as £240m links emerge to take star elsewhere

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid will reportedly part with £240m in total, in order to secure the services of star midfielder Jude Bellingham on a long-term deal.

Bellingham has become one of the most coveted players in world football of late. Links to a host of massive clubs began some time ago, and are frequently picking up pace.

Three of the sides that seem to be the most locked in to the race are Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Each of those sides are forces to be reckoned with when it comes to spending big sums. It is difficult to find many clubs that can compete with any of them in the transfer market.

As such, it looks like Bellingham’s Dortmund career is on its last legs. That career is one that started with a move from the Championship, and will end with the midfielder a global superstar.

Indeed, 40 goal contributions in 112 games is not a bad sum for any midfielder. Throw in the fact that he was 17 at the start of that run, and 12 of those goal involvements have come in the last 22 games, it is all the more impressive.

He scored his first World Cup goal at 19 years of age for good measure. Given his star is rising exponentially, it would be hard to see how Dortmund can fight off interest.

It is difficult to see who has the edge at the moment, with three sides fiercely competing for his signature.

Real ready to pay ludicrous sum for Bellingham

Recently, it was reported that Liverpool might be in the box seat. Indeed, the Reds are apparently ready to offer Bellingham’s dad a job as a scout, and keep tabs on the midfielder’s brother, who is rising through the ranks at Birmingham City.

That offer might be one that is welcomed by the whole family. However, Real Madrid seem eager to make sure they are not forgotten about by the Dortmund star.

Planeta Realmadrid reports that the club are prepared to pay a mammoth sum in total to land him. Indeed, they state the total figure would be €270million (approx £240million).

That includes £106million in transfer fees, around £13million in agent fees, and Bellingham’s salary on top of that. The move they are angling for is a long-term one, as it states they would pay him around £20million over the course of six seasons.

It would be difficult for anybody to turn that down, let alone a 19-year-old. That kind of money would be a very attractive proposition to a youngster.

Furthermore, he would be paid a huge sum to play for one of the world’s best sides.

Huge sum could make or break pursuit

While that might not quite price out the Premier League pair, it will certainly put them on the back foot.

Both sides will no doubt carefully consider how much they are willing to part with to land Bellingham. It would not be a surprise if they both came in with similar offers, though.

Bellingham is one of the world’s best already, and he could be a quality asset for whichever side snares him for a lot of years to come.

As such, Real’s willingness to spend huge money could prompt other interested sides to do the same. It could also be the end of the saga, and it remains to be seen if that is the case.
