Real Madrid will soon begin Jude Bellingham talks to catch Liverpool up in the transfer race, but Paris Saint-Germain could reportedly blow both teams away.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has quickly become one of the most sought-after players in Europe. Despite just turning 19, he is already a Bundesliga star and is emerging as a senior England international.
In fact, he could have even left Dortmund this summer if it wasn’t Erling Haaland’s turn to secure a lucrative move first.
Indeed, Dortmund have shut down any further transfer talks for Bellingham this summer. They are looking to be competitive in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
However, the race is on to try and set up a summer 2023 deal for the teenager. Liverpool look increasingly unlikely to further bolster their midfield this summer. Nevertheless, it is the area that needs the most work and Bellingham has long been touted as Jurgen Klopp’s top target.
Furthermore, recent reports claimed Liverpool now feel confident of snapping the midfielder up, perhaps as early as January.
According to El Nacional, though, Real Madrid have also earmarked Bellingham as their next ‘Galactico’ signing. Los Blancos feel he has all the ingredients to replace Luka Modric and add to their exciting new midfield spine.
As a result, Madrid plan to start talks with Dortmund ‘shortly’ given the two clubs’ strong working relationship.
PSG could win Bellingham race
But the report adds that it could yet be PSG who win the race for Bellingham.
The French giants can offer much more in wages than Real Madrid – and certainly a lot more than Liverpool.
As with all their transfer targets, there is also the temptation of being the star who can help end their Champions League hoodoo.
PSG believe both those factors can help them put in a ‘remarkable’ effort to snap Bellingham up and put an end to one of the most important transfer battles in Europe.
Nevertheless, the report notes that Bellingham may find La Liga or the Premier League more competitive.
Midfielder race the one to watch
Bellingham has quickly become a key player to watch for clubs and fans across Europe, but this season could cement that progress.
He will look again to try and lead Dortmund to the Bundesliga title and deeper into the Champions League.
Klopp wants Jude Bellingham but he’ll have to wait
Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund but they will have to wait until next summer
But there is also the World Cup with England to look forward to. Bellingham looks a generational talent and the Qatar tournament could be the one where he fully announces himself on the international stage.
And from there, he could secure another life-changing transfer, with three European heavyweights already in the mix.
