Klopp labels Salah-compared Liverpool youngster ‘real talent’ after FA Cup strike

Jurgen Klopp hugs goalscorer Kaide Gordon during Liverpool vs Shrewsbury, January 2022

Jurgen Klopp has labelled youngster Kaide Gordon a “real talent” after his goal for Liverpool against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.

Gordon, just 17, kicked off the Reds comeback at Anfield after they had shockingly gone behind to their League One opposition. His cooly-taken goal was followed by three more from the hosts as they eased into the fourth round.

And the forward, who was compared to Mo Salah earlier this season, also became the second youngest scorer in the club’s history in the process.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Klopp said: “He’s a real talent and his main strength is his finishing.

“[It was] a brilliant, brilliant goal. Really calm and very composed.”

The German coach named a strong defence but a youthful attack for Liverpool’s first match after their Covid-19 enforced postponment in the Carabao Cup.

He continued: “It was really nice in the end because of all the struggles and problems we had over the last 10 days or so.

“It was massively important for the boys to get a game like this, to get a result like this.

“We’ve trained since Friday pretty much and that is what we decided with this line up. The boys really fought hard.

“When you get the first goal against you so many things can happen.

“I really like the way we responded and I really like the way that the crowd responded today. Everybody knew ‘oh, that’s a bit strange so let’s give it a go’, so that helped massively.

“We started with five really young boys. They are really good players. We played so many safety passes in the first half. We knew we could play better football in the second half.”

Liverpool learn target requirements

Meanwhile, the battle lines have been drawn for Liverpool and their former captain Steven Gerrard. They’ve learnt the mega price tag for Yves Bissouma.

The Reds have been long-term admirers of the Brighton midfielder, who has put himself on the radar of the top six sides with his performances. Gerrard’s Aston Villa have now also joined the race.

That’s according to a recent report by Sky Sports. And that claim has since been reinforced by a fresh report from The Athletic.

With Villa keen and a whole host of other clubs sniffing about, Bissouma’s club have set the amount they want for him. And it’s eye-watering…
