Jurgen Klopp lauds ‘insane’ Liverpool attackers after Man Utd demolition

Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on his Liverpool forwards following the stunning victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

They ran out 5-0 winners thanks to a Mo Salah hat-trick and goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota. United, meanwhile, hit a new low by slumping to a dreadful defeat to their rivals.

Liverpool flew out of the blocks and were ahead with just five minutes gone. Salah ran at United skipper Harry Maguire before playing in Keita. The central midfielder calmly finished past David De Gea to open the scoring.

Eight minutes later and the away side were at it again. Some poor defending saw Keita give the ball to Trent Alexander-Arnold out wide. His cross found Jota, who slid in to score.

Liverpool were rampant and their talisman then made it 3-0. Keita crossed for Salah and the in-form Egyptian swept the ball past De Gea to get his customary goal. But the 29-year-old wanted more and secured his brace in first-half injury time. He received the ball from Jota and confidently rolled it into the net.

His hat-trick was secured shortly after the interval. United substitute Paul Pogba was dispossessed, allowing Klopp’s men to break. Jordan Henderson sent Salah through with a great pass and he made no mistake, poking home from close range.

Things went from bad to worse for United as Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal disallowed and Pogba was sent off.

Liverpool and Chelsea are both in for Inter Milan's Marcelo Brozovic

Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly both interested in Inter Milan's Marcelo Brozovic, with more news on Raheem Sterling and Thomas Tuchel.

During a post-match interview with Sky Sports (via BBC Sport), Klopp said: “What can I say? Did I expect that? No. What we did in the last third was insane. Pressing high, winning balls, scored wonderful goals.

“I told them at half-time to play better. We started incredibly well and stopped playing football. We controlled the game after the fifth, it was not about scoring more, just trying to get out without more injuries.

“The result is insane, I asked if there was one like this in history and if there isn’t then it will take a while. The players put a nice piece in the book. It is special but we don’t celebrate like crazy, we have respect for the opponents. We were lucky in some moments, United are not in their best moment.”

On Salah, the German added: “The fifth goal, Mo was there to get the goals and he deals with the fuss that everyone makes around him. He enjoys his football and long may it continue. I knew already [he wants to end his career here], I know the situation.”

‘Still only three points’, says Salah

Hat-trick hero Salah said: “I think it is great to win 5-0 here, we knew before the game it would be tough if we did not play our game.

“We knew they will come and try to give everything so we had to give 100 per cent.We just tried to play our football and play in between the lines to create more chances. We did that and were lucky to score.

“As long as the team keep winning I am happy and to give my best to the team to win. The first goal I gave to Naby Keita to score.

“We know what it takes to win the Premier League, we did it two years ago. [This is] a big win here but still only three points.

“We try to win each game and try to win the title. We need to play to win everything. From our heads from pre-season, we need to win the Premier League and hopefully we go for that.”
