Jurgen Klopp to leave Liverpool if one thing happens, with FSG fired dramatic warning about sacking Reds boss

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp will say ‘enough is enough’ and walk away from Liverpool if one thing happens, while a Swiss journalist has claimed “Anfield will blow up” if FSG sack the Reds manager.

Much has been made about Klopp’s seven-year itch at his former clubs. The German, 55, was heralded for the transformative effect he had at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

However, he appeared to reach the natural end of his stints around the seven-year mark.

Dortmund’s decline in Klopp’s seventh year was the most striking. The German giant were rock bottom with only 15 matches remaining in the 2014/15 Bundesliga season.

Klopp oversaw a late-season surge that hauled his side up to 7th. However, the writing was on the wall and he departed Dortmund at season’s end.

His time at Liverpool has been an altogether successful one. The Reds have ended their Premier League drought under his stewardship and scooped their sixth European Cup/Champions League title.

However, the current campaign has left a lot to be desired with their recruitment and effort levels of the players both coming under the microscope.

Noises among the media have begun to suggest Klopp’s position isn’t as secure as it once was. Indeed, former Liverpool midfielder, Dietmar Hamann, suggested owners FSG aren’t far off holding talks to discuss Klopp’s future.

Klopp refuted those claims in a press conference on Tuesday night. In his mind at least, the last thing Liverpool need right now is speculation over their manager.

However, speaking to BILD, Swiss journalist, Marcel Reif, has outlined what could make Klopp walk away.

What will make Klopp say ‘enough is enough’?

Reif previously suggested Klopp and Guardiola’s futures could be intertwined. He claimed the personal rivalry they share will keep them where they are for the long haul. In his words, “If you extend, I’ll extend too.”

But Liverpool’s struggles have thrown up a new outlook and Reif believes Klopp could call time on his Liverpool career if he feels the squad aren’t responding to his demands.

Furthermore, Reif dramatically claimed Anfield would “blow up” is FSG pulled the trigger on Klopp.

“I still believe in what Liverpool have in them, but it has to come slowly,” said Reif (via Sport Witness).

“Some of the top performers seem tired, perhaps also due to Klopp’s demanding manner. There is still time to reach fourth place.

“If they sacked him, Anfield would blow up! You can’t do that.

“He is old and smart enough. If he feels that what he demands and how he demands it from the team can no longer be done at Liverpool, then he will say himself: ‘Enough is enough’.”

How should FSG handle Klopp’s future?

The relevance of the seven-year narrative is a matter for debate. Any manager who has worked with predominantly the same group of players for so long will eventually see diminishing returns.

The fan reaction to axing Klopp would undoubtedly be negative despite the slow start. Furthermore, the club’s biggest issue in the market was not addressed last summer.

It’s painfully clear Liverpool’s midfield requires major surgery. The Reds appear content to wait for Jude Bellingham in 2023, but finishing outside of the top four could torpedo their chances of luring Bellingham in.

Liverpool have signed just one midfielder since bringing Naby Keita on board way back in 2018. Thiago Alcantara was that man in 2020 and FSG must rectify their inaction in 2023.

It’s telling that Liverpool’s best player this season – Luis Diaz – is a relatively new signing. In the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, fellow new recruit Darwin Nunez put in his best display since joining.

The issue at Liverpool is more stagnation of the playing personnel rather than of their manager.

If FSG don’t open the chequebook and provide Klopp with new blood in the coming windows, the end result might be losing one of the club’s greatest ever managers.
