More good news for Liverpool as FSG enter advanced talks to secure massive new Klopp contract

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are reportedly hopeful of persuading boss Jurgen Klopp to sign a new contract to keep him at the club beyond 2024.

Marc Kosicke, Klopp’s agent, was said to be in attendance at Anfield for Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Spanish side Villarreal, along with FSG president Mike Gordon.

Klopp has previously stated that he is prepared to walk away from the club when his existing deal ends. However, a report in the Daily Mirror claims there have been indications the German is open to extending his stay.

The report adds that talks have been advancing over a new deal in recent weeks and that Klopp is keen on remaining on Merseyside – having made the switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

Klopp is currently in the process of starting to rebuild his Liverpool squad, with younger talent like Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz all brought in during recent transfer windows.

And now FSG want him around when those players hit the heights of their careers.

Klopp has pretty much won it all during his time at Anfield. The Premier League, Champions League and League Cup are all on his CV, while the Reds are going for an incredible quadruple this season.

The FA Cup remains the trophy to elude him, although the Reds will face Chelsea in the final on May 14.

Klopp’s men also have one foot in the Champions League final after their win over Villarreal on Wednesday evening.

Klopp refuses to get carried away

The Reds won 2-0 at Anfield in their first-leg clash, although Klopp is remaining cautious over the tie.

Speaking after the game, he said: “The full work. Nothing happened yet, that’s how it is. For me, it’s the best example, you play a game and it’s 2-0 at half-time [then] you have to be completely on alert.

“You have to be 100 per cent in the right mood. You have to play the second half like you played the first half.

“There is nothing to defend [and] if you do that you [lose] immediately all the advantages you might have had before. We know we go there and it will be a tricky atmosphere for us and different from tonight.

“Their players, you saw it tonight, they fight with all they have and what I like [is] that everybody could see that we fought with all we have.

“It’s always the same. If they beat us with a result that brings them to the final, then they deserve it. If not then we deserve it. That’s how the competition is. We played a really good game and now in five days we will play again. We have to make sure that we are ready.”
