Jurgen Klopp sack latest: Pressure mounting on boss as Liverpool target one of world’s best coaches to replace him

Jurgen Klopp’s position as Liverpool manager is under serious threat and club officials are lining up a Bundesliga coach as his replacement, according to a report.

Klopp is an icon at Liverpool after guiding them to big trophies such as the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in recent years. He has helped Liverpool challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title in several seasons, despite the Reds not quite having the funds to create such strong squad depth as Pep Guardiola’s.

Liverpool were chasing an unprecedented quadruple last season. They won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Although, they lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and came second in the Prem to City.

However, Liverpool are way off the pace this time around. They are languishing in eighth place in the league. They have also been knocked out the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Liverpool’s last hope of silverware is the Champions League. But after Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat to Real in the first leg of their round of 16 tie, it is looking unlikely Klopp’s men will triumph in that competition either.

CaughtOffside have now given a big update on the goings on at Liverpool. They claim pressure is rising on Klopp to turn the side’s fortunes around. A source believes Liverpool need ‘freshening up’, either through a change of manager or a player overhaul this summer.

Liverpool chiefs held internal discussions before the Real match about whether they should stick with Klopp or bring a new manager in. The 5-2 defeat will have done little to assure the Liverpool hierarchy that the players are working hard for Klopp.

CaughtOffside suggest one man who could replace the former Borussia Dortmund boss in the Anfield dugout. Liverpool have apparently identified Bayern Munich’s Julian Nagelsmann as a potential replacement.

And in a welcome boost for Liverpool, Nagelsmann would ‘jump at the chance’ to manage them if such an opportunity presented itself. The 35-year-old wants to manage in England one day and Liverpool are one of the most illustrious clubs in the country.

If Liverpool do decide to part with Klopp, then they will do this respectfully. Rather than sack him, it is suggested they will allow him to resign first so he can leave on good terms. This is because of all the great things he has achieved while on Merseyside.

Liverpool fans would be hugely disappointed to see Klopp go. He is a hero among them after giving them such good memories. Klopp is also great at interacting with supporters and portraying himself essentially as one of them.

But as replacements go, Nagelsmann would be a fantastic option. He has proven himself to be one of the best coaches in the world during spells at RB Leipzig and now Bayern.

And at just 35 years old, Liverpool could rely on the tactician for plenty of years.

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher has given his reaction to Liverpool’s thrashing at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
