Klopp confirms tactical Liverpool change worked wonders as duo picked out; launches Scott Parker sack rant

Jurgen Klopp says Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah executed a Liverpool tactical tweak to perfection in the recent 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth.

The Reds claimed their first win of the Premier League season in emphatic style by smashing the Cherries. Luis Diaz netted twice, as did Roberto Firmino – who many have called on to supply more goals.

Mohamed Salah should have scored a tap-in. Nevertheless, young midfield duo Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho made up for the miss with standout goals of their own.

According to Klopp, though, there were tactical issues with Liverpool in their previous games. The Reds lost to Manchester United after drawing with Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Asked if he told Diaz and Salah to get into the box more, Klopp said: “Yes, but not because of the United game, just in general.

“I saw situations where Mo crossed the ball and I think the two players in the box were [Jordan] Henderson and [Trent] Alexander-Arnold.

“We have to be more flexible, we have to bring more players in the box – who it is, I couldn’t care less.

“It’s just about having bodies in and around the box, having players in these positions, these kinds of things.”

Klopp labelled Elliott’s goal his “favourite” of the nine. The Englishman pounced on Firmino’s mis-control to curl the ball into the corner of the net.

Klopp slams Scott Parker, Bournemouth sacking

Bournemouth boss Scott Parker admitted that the day was a “shell-shocking” one for him.

And the Cherries sacked him on Tuesday after three convincing defeats in a row. Although, the other two were against high-flyers Arsenal and champions Manchester City.

Klopp slammed the decision by Bournemouth’s owners, insisting that they are culpable because of their lack of backing for Parker in the transfer market. Since earning promotion from the Championship, the south coast club have made five signings – three free transfers and two costing £27million in total.

“When I heard today I realised how important it is in this moment to have the right owners at the football club,” Klopp said of the sacking.

“I’m sure Scott Parker would have had an idea who would have been the right players, he is not crazy. He wouldn’t have asked for players who cost £60million, £70million, he would have just asked for the right players.

“I cannot say if they need strengthening or not, it just looks like they didn’t do a lot of business.

“When you come from the Championship, it’s tricky and then you lose against these three teams in the beginning of the season and your owner tells you it’s not good enough, that makes no sense.

“If you do no business together and only one of you is responsible, that makes no sense.”

Liverpool return to action on Wednesday when facing Newcastle at Anfield. Bournemouth play Wolves at home.
