Liverpool transfer news: Raphinha wanted next as report claims massive bid is lodged to supply Darwin Nunez chances

Liverpool are far from down in this summer’s transfer window with fancifiul reports in Spain suggesting they have launched a huge bid to prise Raphinha away from Leeds United.

The Reds, having come so close to winning a quadruple this season, have already brought in Fabio Carvalho from Fulham following a prolonged chase. And they are on the brink of securing the club-record signing of Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan will arrive on a six-year deal with Liverpool having agreed a package worth £85m with Benfica.

As excitment builds for the arrival of Nunez, Liverpool fans have been told why the striker is like a Cavani, Suarez hybrid.

To most observers, Liverpool’s attacking ranks will have enough quality players about them to sustain another push for glory in 2022/23.

Even with Sadio Mane set for a departure, Liverpool’s squad is still bursting with talent. Adding Nunez and Carvalho to the ranks, the Reds also have Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino also still on the books.

However, Spanish daily Sport reckons Jurgen Klopp is still not content yet with the Reds also submitting a £60m offer for Raphinha.

The Brazilian is the obvious jewel in Leeds’ crown. He looks set for a starring role at the World Cup later this year.

But in the meantime, Leeds United face a huge fight to retain his services amid ongoing links to Barcelona.

They are currently unable to raise the £60m fee Leeds are seeking for the 25-year-old’s services. But with the player seemingly desperate to make the move, the player and his agent are set to have firmly made up their minds on his next club.

Fresh doubts over Mohamed Salah future

But that doesn’t stop Sport suggesting Liverpool are ready to gazump Barca and still make a move for the winger.

They claim Klopp wants Raphinha at Anfield as part of a new-look attack with Nunez at the forefront.

Since arriving from Rennes for £17m, Raphinha has 17 goals, providing 12 assists in 67 Premier League matches.

The prospective move will also raise doubts over the future of Salah once again.

The Egyptian has just a year left on his deal and is yet to agree an extension.

Salah insists he will still be at Liverpool next season, though failure to agree a new deal does leave them in a predicament.

Liverpool unlikely to sign Raphinha

Despite the bluster coming out of Spain, it seems highly unlikely Raphinha will end up at Liverpool.

The winger seems hell-bent on moving to Barcelona only, amid claims he’s instructed his agent to ignore all other offers.

That said, there does appear to be something of a period of change at Liverpool.

With Mane on his way to Bayern Munich, you would not rule out a departure for Salah either. With a year left on his deal, Liverpool will not allow a multii-million pound asset to depart on a free.

Ironically, Barcelona are being linked with him, with that prospective move derailing their Raphinha hopes in the process.

Leeds stand firm on huge Raphinha deal breaker

Leeds United won’t be moved from their stance on the Raphinha transfer as Barcelona want to pay in instalments

But it seems Barcelona want Raphinha themselves above all others anyway. Their coach, Xavi, is a huge fan, having made the Leeds man a priority signing to replace Ousmane Dembele.

Ultimately, we expect Leeds to lose Raphinha this summer. But a move to the Nou Camp, not Anfield, appears the far likelier outcome.

Liverpool, meanwhile, look set to offload up to five players this summer, with one of them – Takumi Minamino – strongly linked with Leeds.
