Juventus come calling as Klopp is given chance to salvage sizeable fee for unsettled Liverpool man

Sadio Mane and Naby Keita, Liverpool FC players warm up ahead of Premier League game v Burnley at Turf Moor

Juventus are reportedly planning an approach to sign Naby Keita this summer, amid claims Liverpool are ready to cash in on the midfielder for a discounted fee.

The Reds have a transfer success rate that is the envy of most clubs in England. Aided by Michael Edwards, Jurgen Klopp has been provided with a series of signings that on the whole, have been huge successes.

Indeed, the latest big-money signing, Luis Diaz, already looks the part after an excellent start to life at Liverpool.

However, the odd disappointment is inevitable, and even the most ardent of Liverpool fans would have expected more from £52.75m man Keita.

Liverpool paid a premium to land the Guinea midfielder one year early in August 2017. But since moving to Anfield the following summer, Keita has consistently struggled to make his mark.

In his three and a half seasons at Anfield, Keita has reached 94 appearances for the Reds. In that time, he’s managed 10 goals, while assisting five others.

Still, he is yet to convince Klopp he’s worthy of a regular shirt. As such, reports last month claim Klopp is ordering Keita to begin the process of finding a new club and is ‘no longer wanted at Anfield’.

Contract close to expiring

And with Keita’s contract expiring in 2023, it seems the perfect time for the Reds to cash in on the Guinea midfielder.

He has previously been mentioned as a possible target for Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

However, reports in Italy now claim it is Juventus leading the chase for Keita.

Naby Keita hasn’t lived up to his price tag and Liverpool want him gone with Barcelona and Bayern favourites to sign him this summer

As per Calciomercato, the Bianconeri are looking at Keita on a cut-price summer deal.

And with just a year left on his deal, they state Juve are readying a £25.1m (€30m) approach for Keita.

Given his form for the Reds, together with his contract situation, that is a fee they reckon will tempt the Reds to cash in.

Furthermore, the report states Massimiliano Allegri is looking to offload Adrien Rabiot with Keita a potential replacement.

Van Dijk a fan of Naby Keita

Ultimately, a parting of ways for Keita and Liverpool could prove the best option for all parties.

There is an excellent player in there, but for a variety of reasons, it just has not worked out for Liverpool.

That said, Virgil van Dijk remains a huge fan of the player and knows there is a real talent in there.

The 30-year-old told the club’s official website of Keita in July 2020: “Naby is a fantastic guy, he works so hard and he is an outstanding football player. We see it week in and week out. He has unfortunately been unlucky with some injuries, but hopefully he can stay fully fit for the next season.

“I think he is world-class, if I’m absolutely honest. I see all the moments when he has the ball, the smart moves, the smart intelligence. It’s just incredible to see.”
