Liverpool enter talks over €45m Bundesliga signing that’s being aided by new secret weapon

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone

Liverpool have opened talks over the signing of a Bundesliga-based midfielder who’ll cost at least €40m-€45m, and their efforts could be aided by a new secret weapon, per reports.

Midfield additions are top of the agenda at Anfield this summer and first through the door is expected to be Alexis Mac Allister.

The Brighton and Argentina ace, 24, has reportedly agreed a triple-your-money deal and per Football Insider, the move is ’99 percent done’. Fabrizio Romano subsequently reported the fee is actually below the £70m number being bandied around.

Elsewhere, L’Equipe claimed Liverpool have entered talks to sign Nice battler, Khephren Thuram. According to German outlet BILD, the Reds are also targeting Thuram’s fellow Frenchman, Kouadio Kone.

More commonly known as Manu Kone, the 22-year-old plies his trade for Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kone is known as a tough tackling midfielder, though also possesses excellent technical ability.

Per BILD, Liverpool have opened dialogue with Kone’s camp and expressed their interest in bringing him to Merseyside. The report then states Liverpool’s intentions over signing Kone are ‘real’ and ‘big’.

Monchengladbach are expected to command a minimum of €40m-€45m for the player. Indeed, that price range is labelled an ‘entry’ point to negotiations.

Monchengladbach are in a strong bargaining position given Kone is under contract until 2025. They also hold an option for an extra 12 months that is solely at their discretion.

As such, there’ll be no discount on the fee, though that doesn’t appear to be putting Liverpool off.

German reporter Christian Falk subsequently tweeted it’s “true” Liverpool have started transfer talks with Kone’s representatives.

Furthermore, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano confirmed Kone is wanted by Liverpool in a piece for the Guardian.

Liverpool’s interest is therefore concrete, and a recent Reds appointment will give them an advantage in negotiations.

Liverpool recently confirmed Jorg Schmadtke as their new sporting director. Per Sky Germany, Schmadtke will primarily be tasked with securing major deals from the German market which he knows like the back of his hand.

BILD acknowledge Schmadtke’s recent appointment and float the idea he can help bring Kone to Liverpool.
