Klopp schedules in second meeting for midfielder who has cemented place on Liverpool shortlist at World Cup

Liverpool are ready to take further steps towards the signing of Sofyan Amrabat after the next talks were pencilled in involving Jurgen Klopp, a reporter has revealed.
Amrabat has risen up Liverpool’s midfield shortlist during the World Cup, where he has helped Morocco to the semi-finals. They will be up against France on Wednesday to determine who will face Argentina in Sunday’s final.
After their participation in the tournament ends, Morocco’s players will be back to focusing on their club duties. Some of them have impressed enough to be in line for potential January transfers.
Amrabat is certainly one of them after already attracting Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year. Now, in addition to Spurs, Liverpool are paying close attention to his situation.
Reports about the Reds’ interest have been increasing in frequency throughout the World Cup. It appears they have been putting in a lot of work into the potential addition of Amrabat.
Now, Foot Mercato journalist Anas Bakhkhar has told Empire of the Kop how advanced Liverpool’s pursuit of Amrabat is.
Bakhkhar has revealed that Liverpool manager Klopp has already been involved in one meeting to lay the groundworks for the signing of Amrabat. More talks will be due after the World Cup.
The reporter revealed: “Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp has met the agent of Sofyan Amrabat.
“We can also mention that his brother, Nordin Amrabat, who has been working on his brother’s career for a long time now, was also there and they both met with the coach.
“It was a very good meeting. It was positive and they will be meeting a few days after the end of the World Cup to see if the interest is the same for Jurgen Klopp.
“After his performances in Qatar, the interest shouldn’t change and there will be other meetings to see the demands of Fiorentina, also the demands of his agent – to see if that transfer will go ahead or not.”
Liverpool working hard to convince Amrabat and Fiorentina
Reports have suggested that Fiorentina are aiming to keep Amrabat for the full duration of the season. Therefore, it might be hard to convince them to sell him in January.
But while his stock is high, the Serie A side might have to think about cashing in. Besides, he is only under contract until 2024, although Fiorentina do have the option to extend his deal by a further year to protect his market value.
With interest increasing, they may choose to activate that option. But Liverpool could be planning to put some money on the table in January anyway.
Klopp’s midfield has been under scrutiny this season. Fabinho has struggled for form, Naby Keita has been injured for most of the campaign – by the end of which he will be out of contract, along with James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – while Arthur Melo has failed to appear in the Premier League during his loan spell from Juventus.
Amrabat could help them address their issues in the middle of the park. In addition, reports have suggested they could make a big bid for Argentina ace, Enzo Fernandez.
Perhaps in 2023, Liverpool will have a more reliable and exciting midfield department. It will only help improve their form, which has been inconsistent on the whole in 2022-23.
