Klopp told which Liverpool star he can’t drop as pundit reveals whopping price tag

Jack Wilshere and Darren Bent have both sung the praises of Liverpool winger Diogo Jota and feel he is now one of the first names on the team sheet.

Jota, 25, has been with the Reds since September 2020 when he moved to Anfield from Wolves for a reported £41m. The Portugal international made an immediate impact, scoring on his Premier League debut in a 3-1 triumph over Arsenal. However, he was then sidelined for around three months after sustaining a nasty knee injury in December last year.

The former Porto loan star returned to finish his debut Liverpool season with 13 goals from 30 outings in all competitions. He has been a revelation this term, with 10 league goals to his name already and 12 in total.

Jota is now part of a three-pronged attack alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. And former Arsenal star Wilshere feels he has transformed the way the Merseysiders play.

“I think he had something different in terms of when they play with Firmino up top, Firmino would drop deep but he seems to be a little different to that,” he told talkSPORT.

“He’s a goalscorer, he has that knack, Benty would know more about it when you’re in the right place at the right time.”

And the former England midfielder believes his price tag has now almost doubled.

When asked about his value, he added: “£70 odd [million] I’d say – he’s a great age (25-years-old).”

Jota now invaluable to Liverpool cause

Jurgen Klopp’s men are right in the thick of a Premier League title challenge. They sit second in the standings, just three points adrift of table-topping Manchester City.

It remains to be seen if they can go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s side until the end of the campaign.

Klopp will need his big guns to fire. And former Tottenham ace Bent feels Jota is one of them.

“When they first signed him, he was on absolute fire, wasn’t he? Then he had that injury and it kind of railroaded him a little bit,” he said. “But he’s come back this season fantastic and, at one stage, it was almost like blasphemy that anyone could upset that front three, Firmino, Salah, and Mane.

“It was always them three. Whoever comes in is going to have to play backup but he’s gone in there and shown no fear.”

Klopp has an array of attacking talent at his disposal. And Wilshere is adamant that Jota deserves to have muscled in on the action.

“Now you look at that front three and you think whose probably the best? It’s probably Jota, Mane, and Salah,” he continued.

“It’s a good problem to have and they can mix it up but at the moment when he’s in that type of form, I don’t think you can drop him.”
