Jurgen Klopp urged to axe Liverpool star who’s creating a ‘real problem’ that’s hard to solve

Tony Adams has told Jurgen Klopp he should “move Trent Alexander-Arnold on” due to the “real problem” at right-back that will take some solving.
Alexander-Arnold has been one of the Reds’ most influential players for much of his time at the club. In his first full Premier League season, he chipped in with 12 assists.
His abilities as a world-class provider have been evident since then. The following season he had 13 assists, then 12 again, then seven last season.
Meanwhile, his defensive capabilities have been questioned for much of his time at the club. That’s not been a major problem while Klopp’s side have been a dominant force in each competition.
However, things are going pear shaped this term, and a lot of players, including the right-back, are standing out for the wrong reasons.
The free-flowing football that Liverpool have become known for has been on show very little this term. That’s evidenced in that they’ve scored 48 league goals this season – four sides have scored more.
What’s more, Alexander-Arnold has assisted just two of those. Given he’s having to defend more than attack this season, he’s been questioned a lot more.
Stuart Pearce labelled him “absolutely woeful” for his role in a 4-1 loss at Manchester City.
Klopp told to axe ‘real problem’ Alexander-Arnold
Pearce is far from the only former player to have noticed a drop in form. Former Arsenal defender Adams thinks the right-back is hindering the Reds, and wants Klopp to get rid.
“They have a real problem at right-back, which has been going on for far too long, and they should try to move Trent Alexander-Arnold on if they get the chance,” he told The Sun.
While Adams feels that problem begins with Alexander-Arnold, he doesn’t feel it ends when he leaves.
“But is Joe Gomez going to be any better there? I don’t think so. Then again, they’ve got problems in lots of positions,” he added.
If Alexander-Arnold was to be axed, the best course of action would seem to be buying a new right-back.
Alexander-Arnold a valuable asset
However, it might be too early to judge the star following one bad season. Granted, he’s never been the most capable defender, but that hasn’t mattered too much in the past.
Indeed, it’s hard to argue with quite how effective he’s been going forwards before this season.
A few personnel changes around him could give him the freedom to be able to attack. That’s when he’s at his best, and he’s one of the best players in the world when given that freedom.
His qualities should outweigh his drawbacks for Liverpool, and they should stick with him. After all, he’s not the only player in the side that’s going through a lean patch.
