Liverpool have €90m-rated forward who Jurgen Klopp has hailed on list to replace outgoing star

Liverpool have a €90m-rated striker who Jurgen Klopp has previously hailed on their list to replace Roberto Firmino, according to a report.

Firmino has been a great servant to Klopp, but it seems he could soon be leaving the club with his contract expiring in the summer of 2023. He has fallen out of favour since Diogo Jota’s arrival and is now the wrong side of 30 years old.

Should the Reds cash in come the end of the season, they will be need a new centre-forward to replace him.

And according to Calciomercato, they could go after Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

The 24-year-old has been in their sights for a while. Indeed, they thought about approaching him before signing Jota in 2020.

Klopp is a big fan, describing him as “one of the most exciting strikers in the world” after Liverpool and Inter were drawn against each other in the Champions League last December.

Therefore, ‘it’s not excluded’ that a move could be made. Especially because Inter may be open to selling.

The report claims Martinez could be ‘sacrificed’ in order to raise funds for new signings. That’s despite a fairly impressive record in front of goal.

He has 61 goals and 22 assists in 165 games for the Serie A side. But he has struggled in recent weeks.

And as he is the player with the most market value, which they believe to be €90m, it’s suggested he would be first out of the door.

Liverpool are certainly not alone in their admiration. Several of their fellow top six Premier League counterparts have shown an interest in Martinez.

Tottenham have been linked, Manchester United have been suggested as a potential suitor, and Man City look set to make a move.

Roberto Firmino, Marcelo Brozovic Liverpool v Inter Milan in Champions League clash at San Siro

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s apparent interest in Martinez’s team-mate Marcelo Brozovic appears over. The midfielder is on the verge of signing a new deal to stay in Milan.

The Reds were strongly linked with a move for midfielder. It was looking like he could be a free agent this summer, with his contract expiring.

However, Brozovic is now on the verge of signing a renewal with Inter, according to club administrator Giuseppe Marotta.

The 29-year-old is to be rewarded with a mammoth new deal through June 2026, worth a reported €6m-per-season.
