Liverpool tee up Arsenal, Tottenham transfer collision course in case of unlikely Salah U-turn

Liverpool are a potential next destination Inter striker Lautaro Martinez if the Reds lose Mohamed Salah this summer, according to a report.

Salah’s future has become the hot topic away from Liverpool’s quest for a quadruple. What’s more, talk of his contract negotiations will not slow down as the summer transfer window approaches.

Indeed, he will have only one year left on his current deal at the end of the season.

Liverpool and Salah have been in contract talks for some time, but the salary appears to be the sticking point.

A recent report has claimed that Liverpool will not sell Salah this summer, even if the talks remain unsuccessful. Instead, they will take on the risk of the player leaving and plan a final summit to try and reach a breakthrough. Barcelona reportedly have interest in the Egyptian.

According to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, though, Liverpool do have a contingency plan.

They came from nowhere to sign Luis Diaz from Porto in January and the reporter told Tuttomercatoweb that Inter’s Argentina international Martinez is a target. Furthermore, Inter would consider a sizeable transfer offer this summer.

“As for Lautaro, the club’s [Inter’s] position is very clear,” Ceccarini said.

Salah to Barcelona is hotting up

Mo Salah is increasing likely to join Barcelona from Liverpool this summer as no new contract being worked on

“The Argentine striker remains central and fundamental in the Nerazzurri project, but in the face of a big offer, Inter will still make a reflection.

“We have to understand if a big European name will come forward concretely. Liverpool is a possibility, especially if Salah should leave at the end of this season.”

Martinez put paid to speculation over his own future in October last year by signing a new deal.

Those terms run until 2026, but Inter would still reportedly consider a massive sale. And Liverpool are not the only side eyeing up a deal.

Arsenal have made a striker signing a top priority this summer. They let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave for Barcelona in January.

They could also lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as free agents at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte wants to further reshape his squad in the upcoming transfer window. Director of football Fabio Paratici knows Martinez well after his role as a transfer chief in Juventus in Serie A.

Inter have significant negotiating power given Martinez only signed a new contract earlier this season.

The 24-year-old has scored 16 goals in 39 games this season.
