Liverpool have enquired about a Bundesliga star who would be able to solve two of the problems Jurgen Klopp has with his squad.

The Reds are expected to add to their midfield options this summer. Indeed, a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister remains a priority.

Klopp is also keen on adding another midfielder as well as a defensive option. Liverpool could do with another centre-half and ideally a right-back to cover Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool boss has experimented with using Alexander-Arnold in a different role of late and he has thrived in the position.

As this has been the case, Klopp could do with another full-back to plug the gap when Alexander-Arnold is pushed further up.

According to reports, Liverpool have enquired over the availability of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

The World Cup winner is out of contract in 2024 and the German club could look to cash in this summer.

According to Sport Witness, Liverpool have ‘asked about’ Pavard as Bayern consider what to do with the defender.

The 27-year-old has been a regular for the German side this season and has played 41 games across all competitions.

What would make him useful to Liverpool is that he can play as both a right-back and centre-half.

If they are able to secure a deal for Pavard, that will kill two birds with one stone.

Liverpool do have the likes of Conor Bradley and Calvin Ramsay in their ranks who play at right-back, but they are each in the early stages of their careers.

Pavard would be a sensible purchase

With the Reds set to splash most of their transfer budget on midfielders, a cost-effective deal for Pavard could be ideal.

The 27-year-old wins an average of 2.3 tackles per game and makes 2.6 clearances. His game time this season has been evenly split between playing as a full-back and centre-half.

His attacking output certainly isn’t at the level of Alexander-Arnold, but it is still solid nonetheless.

In the Bundesliga this season he has scored four goals and provided one assist. He averages 1.2 shots per game and has created 18 chances this season.

Thomas Tuchel has enjoyed working with the French defender so far and going off his comments, he will be hoping that Pavard sticks around past the summer.

“I’m glad to coach Benjamin. He is absolutely consistent, very solid & has a very high level,” Tuchel told reporters.

“He can play both CB & RB. He gives us a lot of opportunities in defence. I’m very happy with him. He has a lot of self-confidence.”

Liverpool have been linked with a handful of other defenders of late. Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi has also popped up on their radar.

The 22-year-old continues to impress in the Premier League and would be a savvy signing for a club like Liverpool.

He along with Pavard would bring a fresh dynamic to this Liverpool backline which is in need of a shape-up.
