Liverpool leapfrog Man Utd for £70m midfield signing, as two serious sources reveal Klopp progress on ‘guaranteed’ move

A top source has declared a £70m midfielder wanted by Man Utd and Liverpool is “guaranteed” to move this summer, while a second source claims it’s Jurgen Klopp’s Reds who’ve stormed into pole position.

The upcoming summer window is shaping up to be incredibly important for both Liverpool and Man Utd. The former will spend the bulk of their summer budget in the engine room, with Fabrizio Romano previously claiming “at least two” and more probably three new midfielders will arrive.

Man Utd, meanwhile, are prioritising an elite-level centre-forward. However, once wrapped up, moves will be explored for a box-to-box midfielder and an attacking upgrade at right-back, per the Athletic.

As such, one player who’s caught the attention of both sides is Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine World Cup Winner, 24, has bagged 10 goals and two assists for the Seagulls this year. He’s calm and composed on the ball, while his willingness to press makes him a perfect fit for either side chasing his signature.

A £70m valuation has been touted, though Football Insider recently listed £60m as being capable of sealing a deal. But if Man Utd and Liverpool spark a bidding war, Brighton will fancy their chances of extracting maximum value.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted on April 17 Mac Allister and his camp consider a summer move “100 percent guaranteed”.

Brighton will have a thing or two to say about that, though their financial model does rely on cashing in on some of their best players now and again. Ben White, Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma have all left for big fees in recent seasons.

Romano claimed Mac Allister’s situation is likely to be resolved very early into the summer window. In essence, that means his suitors are likely to table their bids bright and early for a player they clearly don’t have doubts about.

Now, a fresh update from Romano has shed new light on what’s in store for the highly coveted midfielder. A second source then revealed it’s Liverpool who have assumed the position of favourites.

Romano and top Argentine journalist weigh in

Romano added Liverpool and Man Utd “remain keen” on the move and talks over bringing Mac Allister to Anfield or Old Trafford will take place “very soon”.

Reading between the lines, an agreement over personal terms may well be forged well in advance of the summer window opening in early June.

A second source in TyC Sports’ Gaston Edul brought further news on Mac Allister. The Argentine journalist is universally known as being among the most trusted and dependable football reporters in his country.

Edul namechecked both United and Liverpool in his tweet, though insisted it’s Jurgen Klopp’s side who’ve “found out the most” regarding a Mac Allister transfer for now.

In other words, Liverpool have taken stronger steps towards forging a deal and lead Man Utd in the race at present.
