Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea on red alert as Bayern Munich star eyes PL move; ‘talks held’ with Reds
Benjamin Pavard is reportedly keen on joining Liverpool, Manchester City or Chelsea this summer as the right-back looks to force a move away from Bayern Munich.
The Reds have already held provisional talks with the France international’s agents, but a concrete bid is yet to materialise, as it stands.
Pavard’s Bayern Munich contract is set to expire in 2024. So, if the German club can’t convince him to sign a new deal, a summer exit seems inevitable. This is because they will want to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Liverpool are thought to have the most concrete interest in Pavard.
This is because Jurgen Klopp is pondering over what to do with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Recently, he has been playing as a midfielder for England with great success. So, that is something the manager may consider next season.
Also, with the performances of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip leaving a lot to be desired, defensive reinforcements certainly wouldn’t go amiss at Anfield.
Indeed, Pavard can play as a centre-back and as a right-back. So, he could provide cover in several key areas for Liverpool.
No concrete offers for Pavard yet
However, according to journalist Christian Falk, no club, including Liverpool, have indicated that a bid will be made for Pavard, as it stands.
Writing for CaughtOffside, Falk said: “Liverpool and Pavard. They talked with the agents but have never been concrete with the club and that’s also the positions of the other clubs.
“There aren’t many clubs which are of interest to Pavard. There was and is Barca, there’s Liverpool, Chelsea, then if Man City are on the table, City too.”
Last season, Pavard made 43 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich. In the process, he scored an impressive seven goals and made one assist.
The Frenchman has plenty of experience at the highest level. So, it would be a surprise if no one made an offer for him ahead of next season.
Chelsea’s current first choice right-back option is Reece James, however, he has had some injury problems recently. Their backup man is Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge.
Therefore, bringing in Pavard could be a smart move from Mauricio Pochettino.
Manchester City, on the other hand, could ironically lose Kyle Walker to Bayern Munich this summer. As a result, if they fail to tie the England international down to a new deal, they could replace him with Pavard.
With that in mind, Pavard is definitely a player to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
