Liverpool, Newcastle joined by Barcelona in race for £15m attacker dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’

In-demand Fenerbahce attacker Arda Guler
Barcelona are reportedly set to rival Liverpool, Newcastle United and Real Madrid for the signature of Fenerbahce wonderkid Arda Guler.
The 18-year-old has been dubbed as the ‘Turkish Messi’ by pundits and is one of the most in-demand youngsters in Europe at the moment.
Both Liverpool and Newcastle are fighting hard to sign Guler this summer. But, with two Spanish giants in the race, they may find it difficult to seal a deal.
This is according to Mundo Deportivo (via Sky Sports) who claim that Barcelona Director of Football Deco has travelled to Turkey in an attempt to sign Guler.
It is believed that Barca’s interest only intensified after they learned of Real Madrid’s desire to sign him.
Guler is reported to have a release clause of just £15m. So, he could prove to be one of the bargain signings of the summer, if he can live up to his sky-high potential.
Last season, Guler made 35 appearances across all competitions for Fenerbahce. In the process, he scored six goals and made seven assists.
A versatile player, he has the ability to play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank. So, he would be a resourceful player to have at your disposal.
Liverpool, Newcastle battle for Guler
As mentioned, Liverpool are pushing hard to sign Guler this summer. Also, Newcastle hold a genuine interest in the attacker.
The fact that he has a release clause of approximately £15m makes him affordable for the Premier League duo, Barca and Real Madrid.
So, his next destination will ultimately come down to who can agree personal terms with him.
Although, as revealed by TEAMtalk, Fenerbahce are doing everything they can to tie Guler down to a new contract, so staying in Turkey isn’t completely out of the question. But, everything points towards him leaving at the moment.
It’s no secret that Liverpool are keen to bolster their midfield this summer. For instance, they are currently on the verge of signing Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
Also, they remain in talks with Nice star Khephren Thuram, so Jurgen Klopp has defensive and attacking midfield targets on his radar.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have put a focus on bringing in young talents recently. For instance, the likes of Garang Kuol, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak all signed for them last season.
Therefore, signing Guler would certainly fit in with Eddie Howe’s transfer philosophy. So, it’s very likely they will meet Fenerbahce’s release clause this summer.
However, with Barcelona now entering the race, signing the Turkish talent has just become even more difficult for both Liverpool and Newcastle.
