Liverpool ready £34m offer for Arsenal target to ease Jurgen Klopp’s January headache

Alexander Sorloth Alexander Isak Real Sociedad October 2021

Liverpool are ready to make an offer to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak in January, claims a report in Spain.

The Reds are readying an offer which could hit £34m for the forward, who was interesting Barcelona. Sweden international Isak has a huge €90m release clause, but Sociedad know that figure will be almost impossible to get.

The 22-year-old is on a long contract until 2026 with the LaLiga side and the buyout clause tells you how highly he is rated in San Sebastian.

Isak impressed for Sweden at Euro 2020 and was unlucky not to score, although he did grab two assists in his four games.

He did bag 17 league goals in 2020-21 as his team finished fifth and he has five goals in 13 games in all competitions this time around.

According to El Nacional, Liverpool are plotting a move for Isak to strengthen their forward line in January.

Isak is predominantly a No.9 and the report suggests Jurgen Klopp is looking for a different option from his current forward line.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations in January could leave Klopp short and Isak my well be one solution.

Barcelona were believed to be interest in the player in the summer, but instead went for Sergio Aguero. Per the report, Barca officials thought the free-transfer arrival of Aguero would help them keep Lionel Messi.

Arsenal chase Isak

Arsenal have also been linked with Isak.

The Gunners are on the lookout for Alexandre Lacazette’s successor and have multiple names on their wish list. Dusan Vlahovic and Andrea Belotti are both under consideration.

Vlahovic looks set to be sold in the summer after rejecting the offer of a new contract with Fiorentina. Torino forward Belotti is in a similar position, with his deal up in 2022.

However, Sport Witness, citing reports in the Spanish press, claim that Isak is now the ‘total priority’.

The report states that Isak is in line to become Sociedad’s record departure. They hope any deal will eclipse the €30m Atletico Madrid paid for Antoine Griezmann back in 2014.

Isak recently hinted that he could move on in search of a fresh challenge and has namechecked England.

“I’m in a good place at the moment, I’m very happy. But one day it would be nice to play in England as well,” he said.

That may well have aroused interest from the Premier League. While Sociedad will only be too happy to host an auction between two rival Premier League clubs.
