Liverpool to shock Newcastle with bid for £21m attacker as Klopp continues major squad revamp

Arda Guler of Fenerbahce

Liverpool are ready to rival Newcastle United and Barcelona for the signature of Fenerbahce wonderkid Arda Guler, according to reports.

The 18-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting talents. So, it would be a major coup for the Reds to sign him this summer.

It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool. The Merseyside club finished in fifth place in the Premier League table – missing out on the top four by four points

As a result, Jurgen Klopp is looking to re-energise his Liverpool squad ahead of next season.

The manager has already made one new addition in Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who made the switch to Liverpool for a bargain fee of £35m.

However, Liverpool won’t stop there and still have plenty of exciting targets on their radar. For example, they are ‘close’ to finalising a move for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.

Now, they are reportedly ‘ready’ to make a move for Guler. This is according to Turkish outlet Aksam, who claim the Reds have ‘stepped into’ the race to sign the Fenerbahce youngster.

Top talent Guler targeted by Liverpool

At the start of the 2022/23 campaign, Guler was given the number 10 shirt at Fenerbahce. This has a special meaning for supporters of the Turkish club, as it was the number worn by club legend Alex de Souza.

Overall, Guler made 34 appearances across all competitions this term. In the process, he scored six goals and made six assists. His performances have earned him two caps for the Turkey national team already, too.

A versatile player, the youngster has the ability to play as a winger on either flank, or as an attacking midfielder. So, he could provide cover in several areas for Jurgen Klopp next season.

Pundits have even described Guler as the ‘Turkish Messi’ in the past, so there is no doubting his sky high potential.

But, as mentioned, Liverpool face stiff competition from Newcastle and Barcelona. So, they will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal done.

Ideally, Fenerbahce want to keep Guler at the club for at least another season. But, they could be convinced to sell if the right offer comes in.

Reports suggest a bid of £21m would be required for the attacker. While this may sound a lot for a youngster, if he does live up to his potential, he will be worth every penny.
