Liverpool transfers: Klopp advised to sign Dutch pair in January with Leeds target deemed ideal addition

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been told he could do far worse than go shopping in the Netherlands with popular former star Dirk Kuyt naming two players he feels would help take the Reds to the next level.

The Merseysiders spent the entire summer window focusing entirely on midfield reinforcements. The exits of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo were planned for months in advance. However, the surprise sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson – both of whom departed for Saudi Arabia – was not something Liverpool went into the summer window expecting.

As such, all their energies was spent on bringing in a new-look midfield which saw them spending a combined £145.2m on Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Waturu Endo and, finally, Ryan Gravenberch.

However, it was easy to forget that Liverpool initially went into the summer window chasing a centre-half and a new right-back too, the latter in order to free up the more advanced role in the side for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

One position the Reds have looked strong in, however, has been in attack. Indeed, Klopp is extremely well blessed for options there with Cody Gakpo the most recent addition and joining Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota as options.

However, strong speculation linking Salah with a move to Saudi Arabia – on Thursday it is claimed that critical and final talks over his record-breaking  sale to Al-Ittihad will be held – could leave the Reds with the need to add another world-class attacker to their ranks.

Now, former Anfield favourite Kuyt has named two players in his native Netherlands that he feels Klopp should be looking at.

Liverpool told to sign long-time Leeds target Noa Lang

Kuyt, who is now the manager of Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, has identified two Dutch stars who he believes will surely soon come under Liverpool’s watchful gaze.

“We have a lot of talented players,” Kuyt told BettingSites. “Normally, in Holland, the majority of players coming to the Premier League come from Ajax. However, my team Feyenoord are doing quite well lately. They managed to win the league last season. They’re also doing very well this season, however, we shouldn’t underestimate PSV.

“These two teams have a lot of talent. As far as Feyenoord are concerned, there’s [Lutsharel] Geertruida – he’s just like me back in the day! He’s a very talented player, and I think he’ll definitely make the step to a big team in Europe next season.

“Hopefully Liverpool will look at him as he can play several positions – right back, right centre-back, number six.”

Kuyt also thinks PSV new boy – a perennial target for Leeds United during their recent three-year spell in the Premier League – is also good enough to play for the Reds.

Kuyt added: “I think at PSV, Noah Lang is one to watch. A great attacking player, playing off the wing. These two, in my opinion, will be the ones to make the next step in Europe. I hope Liverpool sign at least one!”

Much of Liverpool’s plans for the January window will surely rest on the outcome of Salah talks today. If they manage to retain his services, it is likely Al-Ittihad will only shelve their plans to sign him and could yet try again at a later date.

Were he to depart, then Liverpool will have an enormous wedge of cash in their pockets and speculation over whom they will sign as his replacement will heat up, with the January window opening for official business in just 116 days time.
