Liverpool urged to complete double Brighton raid to help ease Trent Alexander-Arnold midfield ‘evolution’

Moises-Caicedo

Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right-back position.

The Ecuador international is the subject of interest from multiple Premier League clubs, with Chelsea thought to be the favourites to sign him, as it stands.

Caicedo has shown in the past that he can do a job as a right-back. So, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool rival the Blues for his signature.

Last season, the 21-year-old made 37 Premier League appearances for Brighton, scoring one goal and making one assist.

Indeed, he played a key role in a tremendous campaign for the Seagulls, who finished in an impressive sixth place – their best season in their entire history.

Towards the end of the campaign, Roberto de Zerbi opted to use Caicedo as a right-back, to provide cover for the injured Joel Veltman.

Now, with Alexander-Arnold performing extremely well as a midfield for England, some pundits, like Murphy, thinks Jurgen Klopp should play him there for Liverpool.

Murphy: ‘Caicedo would suit Liverpool’

In a recent interview, Murphy suggested that Liverpool should push to sign Caicedo. Although, Liverpool will have to beat Chelsea, who, as reported by TEAMtalk, are leading the race to sign him.

Speaking to FIVEMurphy said: “With Caicedo, who I think you would get for a little less (than Rice),” said Murphy. “I know Brighton they turned down ‘x’ amount in January (from Arsenal).

“(Caicedo would cost) a bit less (than £80 million), I think. But that’s because it was January (on Brighton turning down £70m from Arsenal in the winter). There will be a clause in it (Caicedo’s contract).

“With Caicedo, the reason why I would think he would suit Liverpool is the way Trent is evolving into this central midfield role, have you seen Caicedo play right-back, by the way?! He can do both.

“He has got that physicality that Klopp loves – and the other thing I like about the two options I said, you know they can do it in the Prem. They don’t need that year to settle in.”

Brighton have reportedly slapped a valuation of £100m on Caicedo this summer. But, with the player keen on joining a bigger club, there is a belief that a deal could be done for less.

Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer. So, it will be interesting to see if Klopp takes Murphy’s advice and makes a concrete offer for Caicedo.
