Liverpool told to capitalise on Chelsea contract farce by launching double swoop for top-class £90m duo

Jorginho, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz

A pundit has urged Liverpool to sign two high-quality players from Chelsea in the near future, with both of their contracts running out.

Chelsea lost two key defenders in the summer transfer window, in the form of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Christensen moved to Barcelona on a free transfer by penning a four-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Rudiger, meanwhile, secured a free move to Real Madrid. He has already helped the Spanish giants to win the UEFA Super Cup, as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt in August.

Chelsea majority owner Todd Boehly wants to prevent a repeat of these bad mistakes. He hopes to tie down some of Chelsea’s most important players who have contracts winding down.

Mason Mount, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva are on Boehly’s list of stars to sort out. Mount’s deal expires in 2024, while the others will become free agents at the end of the current campaign unless Chelsea act.

Chelsea are in talks with Mount and his agent about an extension. However, the Blues are worrying their fans as they are yet to meet his wage demands. The attacking midfielder wants to be paid in line with some of the club’s top earners.

The mini contract standoff has brought up the possibility of Mount going elsewhere. As per The Guardian, Liverpool and Juventus are keeping tabs on the situation. They could submit bids if Mount refuses to pen a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Kante, meanwhile, might be on the move as early as January. Chelsea have ‘surprisingly’ come to the decision to sell him and will be open to offers this winter.

Liverpool could make headlines with double Chelsea raid

It would be huge news if both Mount and Kante were snapped up from Chelsea. They have proven themselves to be top-class operators during their respective spells at the club. transfermarkt rate Mount at £65m, while Kante’s valuation comes in at £26m. Together, they are apparently worth over £90m.

During a recent interview, former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel was asked about Mount potentially joining Liverpool.

He reckons the Englishman would be a ‘good signing’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“Mason Mount is an exceptional player but the only time it would be a no-brainer for Jurgen Klopp is if it works financially for Chelsea and Liverpool,” Friedel said (via Metro).

“The player has to want to make the move and the rumour that Klopp wants him has to be true.

“I think these moves for players, as good as Mount is, only work if everyone is in agreement for it. But it’s clear he’s a very good player and he’d be a good signing for Liverpool.”

Friedel then spoke about Kante, and he reckons the 31-year-old could be an ‘incredible’ capture for Liverpool.

“I know deals for Frenkie de Jong and Jude Bellingham may be in talks [with Liverpool], but if a player like N’Golo Kante comes along on a free then he’s going to have to play,” Friedel declared.

“Kante is really good, there’s been some injury issues, sure, but he’s outstanding.

Kante could be ‘an incredible signing’ for Liverpool

“Klopp knows better than me but I think Kante will have a lot of interested clubs and he’d be an incredible signing for any of them, including Liverpool.

“With regards to Bellingham, this kid has had such an incredible career in front of him and that will come down for the money. I’m so excited to see him at the World Cup.”

Moves for both Mount and Kante would be great for Liverpool to complete. They would help to solve the midfield problems Klopp has had recently, even if Kante is struggling with injuries.

Plus, such a double transfer would also help to weaken a Prem rival in the form of Chelsea.

However, it is hard to see Mount swapping Chelsea for Liverpool. After all, he came through Chelsea’s academy and has a very strong bond with the club. This means he is likely to pen a new contract with the Blues, even if it doesn’t quite meet his requirements.

There is a better chance of Kante moving to Liverpool, given he doesn’t have quite as close ties with Chelsea. But if Liverpool spend big on Bellingham, they probably wouldn’t need to sign Kante as well.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte could veto a Spurs raid for a Dortmund attacker, giving Liverpool a free run at landing him.
