Liverpool plan devastating raid on Chelsea with Julian Ward tracking Blues ace alongside Euro giants

Mason Mount and Kai Havertz of Chelsea

Liverpool and Juventus are both monitoring the situation of a key Chelsea star ahead of a potentially devastating raid on Graham Potter’s side, according to a report.

Liverpool are currently formulating their transfer plans for 2023. Sporting director Julian Ward will be hoping to continue the success of predecessor Michael Edwards by landing some top talent for manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside giants have been linked with plenty of great players in recent months. Their man target is of course Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, although he will not be moving until the end of the season.

A more likely January move for Liverpool might come in the form of Youssoufa Moukoko. Bellingham’s Dortmund team-mate will become a free agent next summer and due to this the German outfit must sell in January to receive any money for him.

Another possibility is for Liverpool to capture Switzerland international Noah Okafor from Red Bull Salzburg.

Reds chiefs like the look of the 22-year-old due to his goalscoring threat and versatility. Okafor has managed 10 goals in 22 games this term, while he can operate anywhere across the front three.

However, Liverpool will have to fend off Arsenal if they want to land Okafor.

A major report has now put Liverpool in line to snap up an important Chelsea man who has yet to pen a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The report comes from The Guardian and they claim Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Mason Mount.

Liverpool, Italian giants want Chelsea ace

The attacking midfielder is out of contract in June 2024. Chelsea are engaging in contract talks with the Englishman and his agent, but they are yet to result in a breakthrough.

Mount wants to receive a big pay rise which will put him in line will the club’s top earners. Chelsea officials don’t want to lose him but are unwilling to meet his lofty financial demands.

The Guardian state Liverpool are keeping a close eye on developments and could swoop in if Mount becomes available for transfer.

This would likely happen in summer 2023, if the star is no closer to a new Chelsea contract by then.

Liverpool aren’t the only team to be keeping tabs on the situation. Italian giants Juventus also like the look of Mount and will launch a move if such an opportunity presents itself.

Chelsea losing Mount would be a huge blow for everyone involved with the club. Fans view him as one of their own given the fact he came through their academy.

Chelsea at risk of colossal setback

The 23-year-old is also a vital part of the Chelsea starting eleven. While he has struggled for form this season, he remains an important cog in the Chelsea wheel. And Potter will surely get the best out of him after the World Cup.

Losing Mount would also reflect badly on majority owner Todd Boehly. He has regularly spoken about his desire to make Chelsea one of the most fearsome sides in Europe. Having Mount leave would show the opposite message.

All of these problems would be exaggerated by the Portsmouth-born star joining a Prem rival in the form of Liverpool.

Chelsea would be seriously weakened by such a transfer, while Liverpool would be bolstering their midfield ranks.

Clearly, a switch to Juve would be more preferable for Chelsea if they had no choice about Mount leaving.

Those in west London now need to work hard and find a solution in the contract discussions. A long-term extension would help to keep Liverpool and Juve off one of their prized assets.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has spoken about how Liverpool got to a £52m star before three rival teams.
