Fabrizio Romano analyses Liverpool prospects of exciting Ajax raid, with international star eager for Prem switch

Jurrien Timber and Mohammed Kudus of Ajax

Fabrizio Romano has given his information on whether Liverpool could move for Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus next year, with the attacking midfielder keen to move to England.

Kudus has been in great form so far this term, netting 10 goals in 21 games for Ajax. That includes goals against Liverpool and Rangers in the Champions League group stage.

Due to Kudus’ top performances for Ajax, he went to the World Cup with Ghana as one of their most important players.

And Kudus did not disappoint. He was one of Ghana’s most exciting stars in a pulsating group which also involved Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana began their campaign with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Portugal, but followed it up with an impressive 3-2 victory of their own against South Korea.

After Ghana had taken the lead through Mohammed Salisu, Kudus doubled their lead in the 34th minute with a clever header.

Following two goals from South Korea’s Cho Gue-sung, Kudus gave Ghana all three points by finishing on his left foot at the back post.

Unfortunately for the Black Stars, they came bottom of Group H and didn’t make the knockout stage.

The 22-year-old is now back at Ajax. And he will be looking to make a big impression over the next few months, as a Premier League move could be beckoning.

Liverpool in the mix for Ajax attacker

On December 1, TEAMtalk exclusively revealed Liverpool to be one of four English sides interested in taking Kudus on board. Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle like him as well.

And during an interview with CaughtOffside, transfer expert Romano has confirmed Liverpool have sent scouts to watch the forward in action.

However, Romano is unsure whether Liverpool will submit a bid for Kudus next summer. That’s because their focus is currently on Jude Bellingham.

“Mohammed Kudus dreams of Premier League football since long time. He’d love to play in the Premier League,” the journalist declared.

“He was close to Everton last summer, but then Ajax made the deal collapse after selling Antony to Manchester United.

Expert confirms Liverpool are scouting Mohammed Kudus

“Liverpool have sent their scouts to follow Kudus already few months ago. On investments, we will see in the summer because at the moment Jude Bellingham is their only summer target.”

It is interesting to hear how Kudus could have joined Everton. Instead, the Ajax man may well end up signing for Liverpool in the future.

As Romano states, that move will largely depend on how the Bellingham pursuit goes. If Liverpool get into a bidding war for the Englishman, then that could take up their attention for most of next summer.

This would put Kudus’ switch on the back burner. And a bidding war for Bellingham would also lessen the amount of money Liverpool have to spend on Kudus.

Alternatively, if Bellingham’s move to Anfield goes through fairly smoothly, and at less than £100m, then Kudus could well become a prime target for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Kudus would provide Klopp with a couple of different options thanks to his versatility. He can operate in an attacking midfield role, such as the one Roberto Firmino is playing in this season. Or, Kudus can be used as the main striker. This means he could provide backup for Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota as well.

Meanwhile, the agent of a major Liverpool midfield target currently shining at the World Cup has opened up on January transfer links.
