Liverpool backed to land ‘new Wilfried Zaha’ as pundit explains why Jurgen Klopp will love Champions League signing

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
Comparisons have been drawn between Crystal Palace man Wilfried Zaha and rumoured Liverpool target Mohammed Kudus, with one pundit explaining why Jurgen Klopp would like having Kudus in his squad.
Kudus has been in prolific form this season for Ajax. He has notched 10 goals and two assists in 21 games for the Dutch club, helping them reach 30 points in the Eredivisie. However, they must find a way to catch up with leaders Feyenoord, who have a three-point lead.
Kudus also made six appearances during Ajax’s Champions League group stage campaign. He scored against Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers, but Ajax could only manage third place and have resultantly dropped down to the Europa League.
The centre-forward made headlines before the start of the World Cup by saying the following about Neymar: “He’s not better than me. He’s just a higher profile player, that’s all.”
Kudus went on to slam The Guardian for taking his comments out of context, calling their story ‘fake news’. But he did live up to the hype at the World Cup, scoring two goals in three matches for Ghana.
Unfortunately for the Black Stars, they exited the tournament in fourth place of Group H. Portugal went through in top, while South Korea followed them in second spot.
Kudus’ impressive displays, both for Ajax and Ghana, have led to rumours he could secure a big transfer in 2023. Everton are apparently one of the ‘strongest candidates’ to snare him, but interest also comes from their local rivals Liverpool.
During an interview with Football Insider, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has analysed the Kudus to Liverpool rumours.
Liverpool target can be next Wilfried Zaha – pundit
He has made a big admission about Kudus being the next Zaha, while also explaining how Klopp would benefit from the 22-year-old’s great versatility.
“Kudus is a top-class player. He is raw and he has a lot of talent,” Robinson said. “If you listen to him and read some of his quotes, he thinks he’s better than Neymar. To be fair to him, he went some way to backing up those quotes with the way that he played.
“I have impressed with him at Ajax. He is direct, can score and is versatile. He can play anywhere across the front line. Jurgen Klopp likes players like that.
“He also has Champions League experience. I think he would be an excellent addition to any side.
“Liverpool have a lot of quality in that area but Kudus would give them something else. Do you know who I’d compare him [with], Zaha at Palace, he is not too dissimilar.”
Kudus would be a good signing for Liverpool. As Robinson states, he can play in all three forward positions, so he would provide backup for Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah.
Kudus has also operated as a central midfielder in recent seasons. So he could help out there if Klopp’s midfield injury woes continue.
Another reason why the World Cup player would be a shrewd addition for Liverpool is his transfer value. transfermarkt rate him at €15million (currently £13m) so he shouldn’t cost as much as some of their other attacking targets.
The only trouble for the Reds is that Everton also want Kudus. This could force the attacker into a big decision about where to go next.
Clearly, Liverpool is the more attractive option given their illustrious recent history. But if Kudus prioritises becoming a regular starter, then he may end up choosing Everton.
