Liverpool transfer news: Neco Williams rise sees price tag set, as Calvin Ramsay deal details emerge

Neco Williams, Wales v Ukraine June 2022

Liverpool are willing to sell Neco Williams for £15million and feel confident of signing Calvin Ramsay as his replacement right-back, reports claim.

Williams developed in the Reds’ academy and made his first-team debut in October 2019. Overall, though, the 21-year-old has struggled for game time with Trent Alexander-Arnold difficult to shift at right-back.

The Welshman has nevertheless performed well for his country. He looked to keep his place in Robert Page’s team by moving to Fulham on loan in January.

However, Williams has firmly cemented his Wales role and attracted significant transfer attention after a fantastic six-month spell.

Indeed, he played 14 Championship games to help finish off Fulham’s promotion push. On Sunday, meanwhile, he played the full 90 minutes as Wales reached the World Cup finals by beating Ukraine.

As a result, the Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds have placed a £15million price tag on him.

Liverpool know that Williams’ stock has risen significantly and will not stand in his way if he wants to move on – providing interested parties meet their valuation.

In fact, Liverpool have already received a host of interest in Williams and are expecting more. Fulham are unsurprisingly looking to seal a permanent deal for the right-back ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Although, the newspaper adds that Liverpool would be ‘more than happy’ to keep Williams if a move away does not transpire.

Nevertheless, Liverpool are planning to make Aberdeen right-back Ramsay their successor for Williams.

The Reds reportedly reached a breakthrough in negotiations with the Scottish side, amid further interest from Leeds United and Bologna.

The Liverpool Echo therefore claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side will pay £4million for Williams, with various add-ons on top.

Ramsay reportedly favours a move to Liverpool to be able to work with Klopp, the report adds.

The 18-year-old scored one goal and assisted nine others in 33 Aberdeen appearances this season.

Reds recruitment drive becomes clear

Amid all the talk about the futures of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, the Anfield club have been focusing on a recruitment drive of younger players.

Fulham’s 19-year-old midfielder Fabio Carvalho will make the move to Liverpool this summer, as Harvey Elliott – also 19 – did in 2019.

Ramsay will therefore prove another exciting addition for Klopp to work with and eventually promote to the first team.

What’s more, the Reds can potentially look forward to significant profit on Williams. If he leaves, he will do so on good terms having advanced his career at Anfield.
