Next Liverpool midfield signing opens up as Bayern Munich threat disappears for latest target
Liverpool appear to be looking at Ibrahim Sangare as a new solution for their midfield and the good news is that rumours they will face competition from Bayern Munich for his signature have been discredited.
Moises Caicedo has chosen Chelsea instead of Liverpool as his next club after Brighton, which means Jurgen Klopp is still searching for a replacement for Fabinho in defensive midfield.
The battle between Liverpool and Chelsea for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia continues, but Sangare is another option the Reds might have their eyes on.
After PSV rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest for Sangare, reports have claimed Liverpool are interested in him as well.
Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been listed among his admirers, but according to Sky Sports Germany expert Florian Plettenberg, he is not a target for the Bundesliga champions.
While Bayern regard Sangare as an ‘interesting’ player, they are not in any kind of contact to sign him from PSV.
Plettenberg does not mention Liverpool in his update, but other sources seem to be indicating that Klopp’s side are genuine suitors for Sangare.
They would be able to sign him by activating a release clause in his contract worth around €37.5m (approximately £32.3m). PSV would not be able to stand in his way in that case and would gladly take in the funds.
Thus, depending on what happens with Lavia, Sangare might be worth keeping an eye on. The Ivory Coast international has been with PSV for three years, but could be bought out of a contract that is due to last until 2027.
Sangare a solution for Liverpool midfield evolution
A defensive midfielder, he has made 136 appearances for PSV since joining them from Toulouse. He has never played in the Premier League before, but Liverpool could offer him that opportunity.
Their midfield has been depleted this summer after the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have both arrived and started their draw with Chelsea on Sunday. Mac Allister operated in the deepest midfield position, but would be freed up to play in more of a box-to-box role if someone like Sangare joined too.
And at the age of 25, Sangare could be ready for the next step in his career, which Liverpool could provide.
