Next Liverpool signing named by former Tottenham boss as talks accelerate over €35m deal

Liverpool have reportedly held ‘productive talks’ with Bayern Munich over a deal to sign Ryan Gravenberch  – and one former Tottenham manager has already lifted the lid on why he expects the Dutchman to become their latest summer signing.

The Merseysiders are still on the lookout for a final midfield signing to round off their window. Despite the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Waturu Endo, the Reds still need more recruits after losing six midfielders since the end of last season.

Indeed, it has now emerged that Klopp was forced to convince the Reds board over the merits of signing Endo. At 30-years-old, it is rare for the Reds to spend big money on a player in the autumn of their careers.

However, back him they did and there still remains room in the Anfield budget to bring in another midfield addition.

To that end, Liverpool are strongly exploring possible deals for one of two options. Their top choice is reported to be Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure. The Malian has made a big impression since signing for the Eagles from Lens for just £21m last summer.

Following Liverpool enquiries, Palace have reportedly named a lofty price for the star, and are seemingly willing to sell if their demands are met.

However, Klopp and Co do have other irons in the fire and the Daily Mail claims they are also in talks to sign Bayern star Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old Netherlands midfielder remains high on Klopp’s wishlist having been the subject of interest from the Reds last summer. And while he opted for the Allianz Arena over Anfield at the time, the move has not worked out with Gravenberch limited to just three Bundesliga starts last season.

Ryan Gravenberch will be next Liverpool signing

Per the Mail, Liverpool and Bayern have held productive talks over a potential deal. And while Thomas Tuchel would ideally like to keep the player, a serious offer from Liverpool could convince them to sell.

To that end, and despite his inactivity for Bayern, it is claimed a fee in the region of €35m (£29.9m) would be enough to convince Bayern to sell.

After losing his place in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup, Gravenberch has made clear he cannot afford another year like the one he has just endured. As a result, he has made clear his wish to move on.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood, meanwhile, is convinced that Gravenberch will become Liverpool summer signing number four before long.

Discussing the Liverpool rebuild and why further signings are needed, Sherwood told Soccer Saturday that he expects Gravenberch to sign before the window closes.

“If you looked at their squad at the moment, can they be the champions of the Premier League again? Absolutely not,” Sherwood claimed.

“But anything can happen in the next couple of weeks.

“I am sure Ryan Gravenberch will go in there, the midfield player from Bayern. Hasn’t played since he has been there.”
