Ousmane Dembele: Chelsea to be beaten as report reveals details of last-gasp Liverpool offer amid significant Mohamed Salah sale claims
Liverpool are seemingly at the front of the queue to sign Ousmane Dembele with a report claiming the Reds have submitted a late – and significant – offer to lure him from Barcelona.
The winger’s contract at Barcelona expires on Thursday, making him a highly-attractive free agent signing. Signing for a whopping £102m from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, the winger has struggled badly with injuries while in Spain.
Regardless, Barcelona have tried multiple times to persuade him to sign extended terms, Much to their and Xavi’s frustrations, though, efforts to tie him down has so far failed to bear fruit. Indeed, with his deal now having just over 72hrs left to run, they are no nearer to knowing his future.
However, it seems a decision on Dembele’s future will finally come to light this week.
As per Monday’s Transfer Gossip, Barcelona have now set Dembele a two-day deadline to decide his fate.
Indeed, they are seemingly fed up of the player refusing to commit one way or another on his future.
His hesitancy has allowed Chelsea to open talks over a prospective deal. Indeed, until recently, it appeared Chelsea were very much on pole position for his signature.
As per a variety of reports, Thomas Tuchel’s side have already also agreed terms with the player over a move to Stamford Bridge.
But with Dembele also refusing to commit to them, the Blues have now also turned their attention towards Raheem Sterling.
Ousmane Dembele ready to accept Liverpool offer
Now Spanish outlet Sport has provided a significant update on Dembele’s future.
And their print edition throws open the strong possibility that Dembele may make a shock move to Anfield.
They claim the Reds are one of five clubs to have made a proposal to sign the player once his deal expires.
And they claim that Dembele is leaning towards Anfield and the chance to play under Jurgen Klopp.
Currently earning £200,000 a week in Catalonia, they claim the Reds are prepared to offer him a deal that matches those terms.
Were he to stay at the Nou Camp, they are only offering him a contract on reduced terms.
As such, they believe the offer from Liverpool will tempt Dembele to make the move.
Worrying claims made about Mohamed Salah exit
Furthermore, they also claim Liverpool have opted to put Mohamed Salah up for sale, with Dembele signing as his replacement.
The Egyptian’s contract has 12 months left to run and talks over an extension are yet to see an agreement reached.
And while Salah himself suggests he will stay at Anfield next season, his failure to pen new terms may yet lead to his departure.
Quite where Salah will end up remains a mystery.
Liverpool trying to hijack Ousmane Dembele deal from Chelsea
Liverpool are trying to sign Ousmane Dembele according to reports as they look to hijack Chelsea’s attempts
However, given the way Liverpool were quick to offload Sadio Mane would it be a major surprise were Salah to depart?
Granted, his influence on Liverpool and their success is huge and cannot be understated. But the club will simply not allow such a prized asset to enter the final months of his deal and risk losing him for free.
Whether Ousmane Dembele is good enough to replace him at Anfield, however, remains in serious doubt.
The France star is unquestionably talented. But he has missed a plethora of games over the years and seems a risky signing given his injury record.
Their interest in him, though, is well documented with a TEAMtalk exclusive last year revealing their interest.
