Despite sustaining a knock on the last day of the Premier League season, the predicted Liverpool team to face Real Madrid should see Thiago make the side.
Liverpool’s hopes of winning the quadruple were crushed by Manchester City last time out. City won the Premier League by one point, despite a Liverpool win on the last day of the season.
The Reds could still take home three trophies this season, though. They will hope to carry on their good form from the last few games into the Champions League final.
Indeed, Liverpool won both of their last two league games, against Southampton and then Wolves. Prior to that, they beat Chelsea on penalties to win the FA Cup.
Thiago limped off during the clash against Wolves on the final day of the season, with Jurgen Klopp fearing his midfield star could miss the final. However, it seems Thiago should be able to play, per the pre-match press conference.
Klopp said there is a “good chance” that the Spaniard can play against Real. Fabinho should also be back, as he returned to training this week, following an injury of his own.
Last time out – Liverpool 3-1 Wolves
Alisson started in net. The two centre-back positions were filled by Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate – Virgil van Dijk was rested after picking up a knock.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalscorer Andy Robertson occupied the full-back roles.
Klopp wants Jude Bellingham but he’ll have to wait
Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund but they will have to wait until next summer
Jordan Henderson and Thiago – who picked up a knock – played alongside Naby Keita in the midfield, with Fabinho out through injury.
Mohamed Salah was left out until late in the second half, so as to not aggravate his injury ahead of the Champions League final. Diogo Jota played alongside Sadio Mane – who scored – and Luis Diaz in attack.
Predicted Liverpool team against Real Madrid
Alisson will no doubt remain in net. Konate and Matip have been interchangeable in some competitions, but the former has played seven of the last eight Champions League games, so is likely to start at centre-back alongside Van Dijk.
Full-backs Alexander-Arnold and Robertson are sure to start, with their roles vital to Liverpool’s system, particularly going forwards.
Fabinho and Thiago should be back from injury, and even if not fully fit, the weight of the game would suggest they will play. Skipper Henderson will play with them to make up the midfield.
Salah, after only a few minutes last time out, will no doubt return to the side, with his role at the top end vital. The other two forward positions should be filled by Mane and Diaz. Getting the better of the Real defence will be key, and the Reds will hope their attack is on song.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Diaz
