Predicted Liverpool team for trip to Nottingham Forest: Reds shackled by Salah, Alexander-Arnold injuries

Despite some good form leading up to the FA Cup tie, the predicted Liverpool team could see them weakened due to injuries to a pair of crucial stars.

The Reds have been in good form leading up to this game. Indeed, they ended Arsenal’s five-game winning streak on Wednesday night.

Before that statement win, Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0, and despite losing to Inter Milan the game prior, advanced to the next round of the Champions League.

The last round of the FA Cup saw Liverpool beat Norwich City 2-1. Despite some good form in all competitions, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be weaker than usual, thanks to a hamstring injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Mohamed Salah is also a doubt after the recurrence of a foot problem.

“Trent is out with a hamstring, so will be out for England too. Not good news, we will see how long it takes. Mo felt his foot a little bit after the game too,” Klopp said.

“We will see how it will take. To replace him [Alexander-Arnold] is difficult but possible. We have [James] Milner, [Joe] Gomez, these kind of things. Trent is so influential but Milner has done incredibly well in the past. We’ll see how Milly is for Sunday.”

It also seems Klopp is not willing to take any chances with his selection. Indeed, Forest downed Premier League opponents Arsenal and Leicester City on the way to facing Liverpool.

“I want a team in Nottingham who are mentally and physically ready. We will be PL team No.4 [after Wolves in the Carabao Cup] they’ve faced so they have not had it easy so far.

“Our former LFC coach [Steve Cooper] is doing a proper job there. If we rotate, it’s just to have the best team possible,” he added.

Last time out – Arsenal 0-1 Liverpool

Alisson started in goal, as is the norm in the Premier League. Alexander-Arnold started at right-back, and picked up injury, while Andrew Robertson started as the other full-back.

The centre-back pairing was Virgil van Dijk and February’s Premier League player of the month, Joel Matip.

Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson started as the three in midfield.

A knock to Salah meant a change to the front three. Sadio Mane played on the right, with Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz playing in the other forward roles.

Predicted Liverpool team against Nottingham Forest

With some big games coming up, the Reds could rest some of their key assets, but will not want to give Forest an easy ride.

Klopp confirmed that Alisson will start in goal. The manager also hinted at a start for Milner at right-back, and Robertson could start at left-back, as Tsimikas – who played the last round – may be unavailable.

The Greece international and Milner missed the win over Arsenal through illness but could be back.

Ibrahima Konate could come into the defence, with Van Dijk alongside him, in an attempt to suppress the physical power of Forest’s Keinan Davis.

Harvey Elliott could be given a start in the midfield, along with Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The front three of Mane, Jota and Diaz may remain the same.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Milner, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Mane, Jota, Diaz
